in my personal preference, i prefer mouse steering to controllers since i feel more in control of the cars turning
since im in your position with no actual racing wheel to use, i have to use mouse steering but i can turn the car and even sometimes drift the car with relative ease.
since the AE86 doesnt come with abs, the best way to use the brakes is to apply them lightly instead of harshly which the latter would lock up the wheels and make it tough to turn
TLDR: dont overshoot your speed, go easy on the brakes, learn driving lines
I'd say for starters just take it easy, use car with ABS on for now as it can be hard to think about wheels locking if you're still practising. I dont suggest using stability control as it's very unrealistic but if you cant absolutely keep it on track without it, try it.
