Wheel/Pedal Compatibility
I am looking for a Steering wheel and pedals to play with on my PC, but am not sure what steering wheels are compatible. Also wondering about Bungee cord as opposed to Forced Feedback. Looking forward to hearing some thoughts.

Pretty much any device on earth with some axis and buttons is compatible with Assetto so I wouldn't worry too much about it, but in my opinion, something like a Logitech G29 or a Thrustmaster T150 is the absolute bare-minimum to be able to have a nice sim-like experience in Assetto Corsa.

I got the typical beginner wheel/pedal setup, the Logitech G29 and 2 months later I'm a very happy customer. After seeing how expensive good wheels and gear can get, the G29 is a fantastic bundle for around $250 and I recommend it as a first wheel.

it has a FFB motor as opposed to the pully belt systems

if you are serious about sim racing and can afford it look into csl dd and v3 pedals. After 2 years on a g29 and stock pedals, I'm a believer!! How ever it took 4 mo. to get the csl DD but was well worth the wait. pedals came in a week so i ran g29 and fanatec v3 pedals and that was good too. There is no way though the dd with boost kit will fly on a table unless it is real solid...maybe even anchored to the wall. I bought a tr8 cockpit. glad I did! This will set you back a cool 1500-2500 depending on what you get if you go this route. My g29 and pedals were 299.00 at amazon and I still have them in good working order for a backup If I should ever need but i'm sure there are better wheels and pedals to be had for $$. But I was not sure I would like sim racing so i got cheapest. and g29 also worked on both ps4 for gt sport where i started and then went to pc and man I fell in love. After feeling the detail and ffb with the dd there is no way i would go to or even need a dd1 or 2 for the size and price difference. With DD and boost pack I feel like i'm in a real race car! Now I can see why everyone who got one wears gloves. The wheel is everything they say about it and more! I ran the stock car from Race Sim Studio, hit the wall wrecked and bout broke my wrist on 1/2 wheel strength. Take your time do a little research. I used G29 in all the sims with LGS software No issues what so ever. Sim racing is a great hobby I realized. building a race car in the comfort of your own home and getting the joy of learning to operate/drive and race is pure enjoyment, outside of the real thing of course. hope this helps get you thinking.

As long as the pedals can be connected to PC directly they should work with any other wheel, but thats often not given. Some connect to the original wheel base or a special off brand adapter you need to buy separetely.

Difference between bungee cord and force feedback is like between bicycle and a car. Both are a method of transportation but thats about it. You get what you pay for.
Also Logitech G29 (or equivalent Thrustmaster T150 pro) is your "good bang for the buck workhorse car". Below that price range you can get something workable... like a trike with e-motor :P . Above you get sports cars, Fanatec could be a ferrari here.

Bottom line, nothing wrong with trikes or bungee cords but it's not driving a car.

If you're considering a bungee cord then you're missing out on proper force-feedback.

If all you require is a steering wheel with a `return to centre` spring, just buy something cheap for $50 with pedals as it will be massively better than anything you might knock up yourself.

If you really want to experience each car as best as possible, you should consider buying a steering wheel with proper force-feedback, this isn't just a centre spring but feedback from the physics engine so you have detail and are able to feel what the tyres and car is doing on track.

You can look for something budget such as a used Logitech Driving Force GT. Its a solid wheel to start you off and can be used with a number of other games, including Forza series.
