ACS.EXE Not Responding
I asked over on the Kunos forum 2 weeks ago, but have had no response thus far. Searching the 'net for a fix nets me a ton of posts from 6-7 years ago..

I just installed AC about 3 weeks ago after a 20+ year hiatus from an PC gaming and *every* time I exit any driving session, ACS.EXE hangs and I have to go in to Task Manager and kill the process, then I get dropped back to where I was trying to go.

I've installed the latest stable version of Content Manager and verified all my content and the problem remains. I'm not seeing anything obvious in the logs.

System Specs:
I7 4770K @ 3.5GHz
32G RAM
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
nVidia GTX970 w 4/G RAM (465.89 drivers)
DirectX 11
Logitech G923 wheel

custom shaders patch 0.1.73 is what i meant sorry.Hope it helps.

I'm currently on 0.1.60 and CM is telling me this is the recommended version and 0.1.73 is untested. If I go ahead and force the update, can I go back if things really go sideways?

At this point, acs.exe hanging is an annoyance, but I do have a workaround...

Went ahead and installed the 0.1.73 patch. No joy. acs.exe still hangs

It does this to me ever time Kunos decide to have a random update, content manager launches the game and then cancels the race before it loads fully. AC just does the same thing. The only thing I've found to work is using the exe's from my back ups prior to the update.

Sorry to here your problem. You can always try any version and go back to prior version.Wish i could be more help.Do you guy's have a lot of Mods?
I remember when i had a issue certain cars would not work with newer versions of the shaders patch and it would cause ace.exe hang ups and i would need to hit shift - enter key to free it up.Just trying to give some ideas to help.

It's done it since day 1. I don't see anything in the logs that even hints at what's going on when I exit a session. Annoying and I can get around it, but it sure would be nice to not have to "get around" it.

If you have discord there is a good trouble shooting crew in the AC Custom Shaders group. Do as you've done here and explain hardware, mods' etc and upload your latest crash report.

Done. TBH, I'm not a big fan of Discord. It's hard to find responses to your posts...

How d oyou start the game?
pressing play in the list or (there might be a rightclick involved first in the list) make a "new" play game in the box to the right (its picture of a car, i think those two point to two different start-ups one being that acs and the other to whatever its named (they should do same thing, but seems not to for some ppl, or have you tried to start it thru AMD or NVIDIA controlpanel?

Have you verified the gamefiles?
I ofcourse take for granted you run the basic game no mods no nothing.

As I said before, this 'hang' has happened since day 1. 1st drive after installation and the acs.exe task hangs. I actually let it sit in that state overnight to see if it would finish whatever it was doing, but even after about 6 hours, it was still hung.

Doesn't matter if I start through Steam front-end or Content Manager. How do you launch anything from the nVidia control panel?

Yes, I have verified gamefiles, updated all the .NET stuff, VC runtimes, etc...

Could be caused by an over-zealous antivirus or anti-malware security software. In recent years this has become a common problem that inhibits or blocks games from completing launching or loading, or blocks them from writing to their own game configuration files and setting files, thus causing the game to inexplicably freeze, hang, or even crash back to desktop with no obvious message.

Make sure you configure any such security software to allow ACS.EXE (and all of the other .exe's that AC has) to run, even if you have to configure a security exception on the entire AC folder. Might also have to allow the game full Internet access because it does access the Internet even if you're not doing multiplayer.

If you're on Windows 10, the OS might have automatically configured security on your "Assetto Corsa" folder in your Documents folder. You can Google how to check for and correct this kind of Win10 security and access control nonsense.

Also make sure OneDrive has not grabbed hold of your Assetto Corsa folder or sub-folders. It can cause a major mess for you if it gets its claws into your AC stuff. You can Google how to deal with this also.
Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive[support.microsoft.com]

If it's antivirus, just turn it off, all you need today is defender if you're not
on TOO dirty sites...

What i meant about Nvidia was just a little thing came to mind, maybe its not same
but i think you have it to.
I have amd and in the "control center" (or what f they call it) i call it unessecary crap.
I somehow made a profile for AC in there and its possible to start from there
(though iu guess they pick up same files, but stranger things have happened

I had the same issue. I uninstalled then reinstalled all the C++ drivers from the first to the latest (all of them, in order) as well as the .NET frameworks (all of them, in order). seemed to fix it for the most part

Anti-virus isn't an issue. F-Prot was no longer available, tried BitDefender but that effed up so much stuff I removed it and now just run behind Defender. OneDrive is also not an issue as I don't use it and it's never been installed. Not on Windows 10 either.

As I mentioned above, I've updated/repaired all the VC Runtime and .NET stuff too.
