Ultimate edition
I have a friend who is interested. Is it recommended to get the ultimate edition? or just installing mods should be enough?

Getting the ultimate edition is definitely worth it. Whenever you buy a key on sites like g2a or eneba, or you buy it in the sale, it isn't that much more expensive, and the DLC cars and the Red Bull Ring track feel really great to use.

DLC were worth it on launch.

For MP, Ultimate is definitely recommended (required for many servers).
For SP modded, some mods use assets from DLC too.

You coud get away with not getting it, but the value on UE is just really good.

TOTALLY WORTH

Apparently not worth it at all as individual DLCs - As this is the only game on steam where an upgrade is not possible. Even for EAC supporters; ripping off 60 instead of 20 bucks excluding the base game really puts Kunos into a dubious light. Worth it if you did not yet buy the base game; Yes. For anyone else already having the base game - A true rip-off and an actual slap to the face as a customer.

If he can get the whole pack on sale it's worth it, kunos has made some really good cars and tracks (ex nordschleife) in my opinion. That being said, getting the lowest pack and using mods is a cheap and good way to test out the game, if you like it, but the dlc packs that you are interested in.

Hope he enjoys the game, and welcome to the community ;)

Far from it. Dont want to "excuse" bad practices of 505 games, but AC is neither first nor last to require removal of original game to get a bundle.

This at least in some instances happens when bundle is just badly set due to complicated IP legality and whoever owning the sell rights (505 games, not Kunos here btw) not giving enough fks.

Tbh this at least is them not caring about existing customers, and only interested to make a "new" sale... I think hiding DLCs into normally unreachable links so you have to buy a DLC bundle/pass with other garbage like Codies have done with Dirt rally 2 is worse imho. Because you dont even know you are being bent over, here you have the luxury to be slapped in the face and feel angry at least.

For a day Humble Store has Assetto Corsa Ultimate for $20.

i believe you buy what you can afford and you support what you enjoy the most so they can create even more.

mods are use at your own risk.

the thing is: as a "full-price" EAC supporter of both AC and ACC it's certainly not enjoyable to see that ultimate upgrades are disabled and publisher 505 or kunos (?) trying to pull out 60 bucks of individual DLC prices out of people's pockets for a 7 year old game.

no matter how you try to twist or bring across your generic "wisdom", malorob. your statement would be totally obvious if pricing was comparable to at least somewhat acceptable pricing policy comparable to other games on steam - 60 vs. bundle-value of 20 bucks for DLCs excluding the actual basegame - is a serious rip-off, however. thankfully the humblebundle limited time offer provides for the ultimate "upgrade" pricing that should be available through kunos on steam by default.

I and many other EAC supporters already "supported" more than enough looking at european steam prices.

and wtf do you mean with mods at own risk. another half-assed bit of "knowledge"? there is no risk whatsoever with mods from a technical pov.

Lots of them tend to make games crashy. The Ultimate Apocalypse mod for the first Dawn of War pushes the engine to the limits and no matter how good and clean your hardware it will crash every now and then. Not often, just every now and then. There have been some Mechwarrior 5 mods that have become crashy occasionally as well. I could keep listing them.
