Whats a good wheel?
What steering wheels are good to use? I'm planning on using it on Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 5, Dirt Rally 2.0, BeamNG.drive, Assetto Corsa Competizione, CarX Drift Racing Online, and maybe some other games. I've been thinking of getting the G923 when it goes on sale, is that a good one?

General consensus is Direct Drive is best, Belt Drive 2nd best and Gear Drive 3rd. Of course this is represented in their pricing (although Fanatec are bringing out an entry level DD wheel in November with very good pricing) with DD being the most expensive, Belt Drive (Like Thrustmaster) cheaper and Gear Drive the cheapest. The big differences between the three types is torque values (G series are around 2nm whereas a top DD is over 20nm) and feedback fidelity. DD gives the best fidelity as there is none of the backlash or loss through direct drive that you get with belt or gear drive.

The G923 is gear driven, but still the G series (G27, G29, G920 etc) are some of the most popular wheels, mostly as they are very good for what they are and their pricing. I've been using my G29 for 5yrs now and it's never let me down and with tuning is a very competent wheel. In saying that I will be seriously considering the new DD option when it arrives.

ill keep my eye open for the new DD. November was around the time I was thinking of buying one anyways since I might as well try looking for the G923 during black friday or cyber monday. Recently my friend got a G920 and I tried it out and I enjoyed using it. He doesn't have a shifter or ebrake yet but it was still fun using the wheel itself. I would just clamp the wheel to my desk and same with a shifter and ebrake and I don't really want to spend too much money so that's why I was looking at the Logitech wheels. I also mostly just want to use them to have fun and drive around and maybe also do some drifting so I don't think I need top of the line sim equipment. With that being said, do you think the price of a DD or BD would be worth spending? Or do you think a G920 or G923 would be reliable enough and good enough to use and enjoy

The DD (even the new one) will be more than you want to spend, some of the belt driven Thrustmaster ones are well priced but I know very little about their range, someone with more experience will be able to assist there. What I can say is that my G29 has served me exceptionally well in the past few years and I have no regrets.

I think I might just end up going with the G923 and then probably also a Logitech Driving Force shifter, and lastly i'll try finding an ebrake somewhere. For now I don't think I need a full on sim setup and then later on if I'm really enjoying it I could upgrade my stuff after a couple or a few years. Anyways thanks for all the help, have a good one :)

Not that i have anything against logitech but 923 is a gimmick wheel, the only reason you should be buying it is the haptic feedback. If you don't care for it, you can buy very similar G29 for much cheaper or get better wheel from Thrustmaster for same price.

ps: Actually wait, just checked the deals and it got much cheaper now that it's in stock... i guess if you have a good deal it might be worth it over plain G29
Anwyays i'd make sure the truforce works as chances are none of the games you listed support it, and as a gimmick it might get left alone if no other manufacturer picks it up.

I like the extra buttons and dials that the g923 has that the g920 doesn't and also dirt rally 2.0 does support trueforce which is one of the games I listed and I was thinking of playing a lot with a wheel. Assetto Corsa Competitzione also has trueforce. I don't currently own it so I might have not listed it but I'm thinking of getting once I get a wheel. Hopefully more titles start to have trueforce, that would be cool to see. Also I get what you're saying about the price, the cost is stupid so that's why I'm thinking of waiting for black friday or cyber monday and try to get it then.

The DD that we were talking about isn’t out yet but it’s confirmed to be $350. The problem with those are you tho is that you have to buy the pedals and the steering wheel itself since they don’t come with the base

The G920 is the cheapest on the market and is pretty great for the price, it should be everyone's "first wheel" and then you can specialize from there.
Lufka Jul 7, 2021 @ 1:54am
best first pick would be t300 rs gt with 3 pedals set, but you gonna buy mainstream ♥♥♥♥ anyway

A good wheel would be the one you feel most comfortable using.

G923, i have one and i use it with beamng so that is a really good gae to see how smooth the force feedback is on your wheel. My G923 can sometimes feel strange as you can feel the teeth in the gear system. A good starter, but i would save for a thrustmaster or fanatec, and make sure it has 3 pedals. DONT GET A THRUSTMASTER SECOND HAND. They have a bad reliability after a long time, at least the ones on sale.

I actually bought a used Thrustmaster wheel a few years ago. And it still works perfectly fine. Tho it only has 2 pedals. But it was less than 100€ so I shouldn't complain.
