- throttle pedal does not go full 100% (check pedal app)
- handbrake is active on straights (check controls)
- drs? i think sometimes AI deploys max KERS (you can too with a button).
- not shifting when lights tell you too
- throttling up too late or too little while cornering
- going in too fast on entry
The last two might be more important the lower your AI strength. As corner exit performance is the least affected by AI % slider. So they can be slow in braking and mid corner but still accelerate well.
Did a few laps and at 100% AI and default setup im dead even or faster if using drs/kers on straights. Damn driving vintage cars all the time, it took a while to readjust lol.
edit: you can press ctrl+C to see if your setup can go as fast as them :). (gotta restart game afterwards thou)
Maybe it was not very clear, but even on a profile where I do manage to get to about 300 km/h on the straight after Eau Rouge the juice is gone after a lap or two/three, where the AI just keeps going.
I've been around in the sim racing camp for a year or fourteen, at times at pretty competitive levels too. Just pretty new to this hybrid minigame.
AI is generally running on the same physics as player, but idk if they have special algorithm for modern F1 cars... they might cheat, but i've done like 6 lap race vs them and they did look a bit slow on straights, with "rain light" flashing sometimes hinting they are recovering the energy. So they might be at least trying to be fair.
The KERS energy deployment also depends on gears (different gear different power coming from electric engines) This combined with profiles that try to fit all tracks makes the higher gears of more aggresive profiles drain energy too much in places where id does little to pace. (in the middle of straights, where to be fast you want to maximize power early and then coast for rest of the straight).
AI might be circumventing the profiles and applying power "manually" as it sees fit (like it does with brakes even on ABS cars) So even wihin same energy limits they might be either too fast or too slow on straights compared to your "profile driven" car.
So best is to use low deployment and manually apply electric power on corner exits.
For longer tracks you might be running out of "per lap" energy quota... cant remember which bar is it, but the "gears" app shows everyting more clearly. This would drop top speed significantly.
Tbh the modern F1 was more of a publicity stunt, with most of the mechanics in place but no proper polish. So you might find it better to use mods like the Hybrids from RSS.
