Cars Veering to One Side
Hello,

I'm currently playing Assetto Corsa with a controller - the Logitech F710.
My problem is that every time I'm driving in a straight line, the cars veer to one side, as though the analog stick is slightly pushed in the corresponding direction. However, that's not the case. It doesn't do it in any other game apart from AC (and Project CARS, when I had it). The controls settings screen shows that the analog stick is in the centre. The Windows controller calibration screen also shows this.
If I set the deadzone to the largest setting, it still does it. If I set the steering controls to the d-pad, it still does it. Does anyone know what it could be? Because it's not the pad.

Thanks.

Try another controller just for good measures.

In Project Cars when I first used it I had "steering assistance" activated, and I found that this was constantly forcing me to drive on the optimum line..... so I was being forced to one side of the track. I didnt realise that steering assistance would take control of my steering and force me to drive on a certian line.

I don't know if Assetto Corsa has steering assistance as an option, but it might be worth checking if it has this option (and disable it if it is there)

Double check you don't have steering LEFT assigned to something other than your controllers analogue stick.

If in AC the sliders move correctly when you move the stick left and right and reset to centre when released, your controller is working fine and should be fine on track- sounds like you have a conflict with another input assignment.

I have steering assistance off so it isn't that. Steering assistance shouldn't pull the car left and right on a straight anyway.

The sliders do reset to the centre when I
release the stick, so it should work fine on track, but it doesn't. I haven't checked for a conflict, but I use the Xbox 360 default setup, so I doubt that should have conflicts.

I've yet to test another controller, but surely this one should work fine considering it's actually working properly?

Let me explain what it's like to drive. Say for instance you crash and damage your steering, so your car doesn't stay in a straight line, meaning you have to counter steer a little bit to keep it straight. It's like that, but I haven't damaged the car, since it does it straight from the pits and when I restart the session etc.

Hello everyone,

I've just tested with another controller and it still does it. So it's safe to say that there's something wrong with the game. Does anyone know what it could be?

It might be another device causing the issue that you have plugged into a USB port.

Either that or just delete the Assetto Corsa folder in documents and reconfigure the controls again to clear the issue.

Does it happen to all cars? Wind will push few cars with "fins" to one side if you have wind on. Try turn off wind if it only happens to few cars.

Yes, it happens with all cars. It's more prominent in the faster cars though, like the LMP1 cars. I use the 919 Hybrid as a test car, using the default setup, and it still does it. It does it in the R18 too. It's random though; it might veer to the left initially, then after tuning a corner it might veer to the right, and sometimes it might not do it at all. I don't get it.

It's beyond a joke now. I uninstalled AC and Steam, and reinstalled everything. I even tried with a keyboard after reinstalling. It still happens. It was literally working fine a few days ago.

Try a custom controller setting rather than the default. Couldn't hurt.

I used to use my custom controller setting until it started going funny. So I tried the default setting and it didn't change anything.

The only other i could suggest would be to delete or move your Documents/Assetto Corsa folder and allow the game to create a new one.

Looks like I'm out of luck then, if it's all you can suggest.
I deleted the folder before I uninstalled the game, and just did it now (it was obviously deleted whilst uninstalling the game too).
It's been deleted 3 times and still nothing. Absolutely beyond a joke at this point.

Unplug all USB devices, all of them, mouse, keyboard- the lot when on track and just leave in the controller.

What happens now?

Hey guys, thanks for all the help! I've found the problem I think. Someone mentioned that the wind could blow my car to the side (credit to brianilme7).

I thought that this can't be the case, because I never thought that wind was turned on. But to my surprise, I tested with the wind on and off, and found that it was the wind blowing my car after all.

I'm yet to test this with my controller, as I tested with my keyboard on the drag strip. But nethertheless, I might be getting somewhere! :steamhappy:

Thanks for this thread!
You are right, the issue is the wind. Turn it off and no problems. :)

Now i finally able to fully enjoy the just now bought DLC with the F2004 & SF70H.:steamhappy:
