Has anyone else used this game to learn driving manual?
So today i got my first car, a 01' Honda Prelude. Its awesome.

I took off the first time, and i actually managed to get it going and not stall. All thanks to this game. I literally hadnt driven standard before.

This might be a dumb post but i thought it was cool.

Has anyone else learned driving standard by playing this game?

Lol what do you mean? I didnt just launch onto the highway and start flying.

I started in a parkinglot. I just thought it was cool that this game helped me learn a bit.

No need for hostility.

If you want to do peformance driving, you should buy track time. Do not risk other's health on public roads.
If you cannot afford track time, you probably cannot afford the consequences of an accident.

Learning to drive a manual transmission is not performance driving...
Anyways, congrats OP

Are you OK?

Good job OP! When I learned how to drive... The PC wasn't even "a thing" ;)

Hondas have an easy clutch... Preludes, are inherently great cars... Hence you probably have a slightly better idea of how to shift than the 16 year old girl down the street that has never played a racing game without automatic transmission.

I learned how to drive in a 1978 Toyota Corolla station wagon. All 60 hp of that beast went to the back tires, and getting it into 1st gear was a real treat, seeing as how you couldn't chirp the tires even if you were in a patch of sand at launch.

All fun aside, When I got my 93 prelude, I was driving my mothers 2001 chevy cavalier to work on the daily, for about a month.

The improvement that the Prelude had over the Cavalier was unimaginable, and really hard to put into words... Easier to drive, Hell yeah, but the amount of leg you had to put into depressing the clutch in the prelude was like doing squats with one leg, for my entire drive to work.

For flat roads with no traffic, Prelude all day... but sitting on a hill at a stop light, and my leg would shake non-stop.

Yeah i dont know where track driving came from, im obviously not going 100mph down my street. Im suprised how quick he was to judge me. I thought it was kind of cool myself.

I just applied what i learned in the game to real life and although it wasnt a perfect transition from game to irl it still helped quite a bit.

Thanks to all the positive commenters for not being d-i-cks. I appreciate it :steamhappy:

Yeah thats what i've heard too. Not trying to act like i discovered a planet or anything, just thought it was cool that a game actually taught me something useful for once. :P

Clutch+brake->neutral
Release clutch+brake->hand brake

I dont know if you're trolling or INCREDIBLY dense.

Manual trans doesnt turn your car into a race car. Its just more fun. Calm down.

Driving manual isn't rocket science. If you haven't done it before, go on an empty parking lot or some other place where it's safe and practice in a real car. That's the best way to learn it. It's not a big deal, everyone in Europe does it - my mom, old people.

^^ This, acquiring a new skill set is done when actually put under pressure. You cannot get better at something if it is not a challenge. Hill starts are possibly the hardest thing to do in a manual and also not riding the clutch through corners
Automatics make people lazy imo

You want to learn clutch? Try a Volkswagen microbus from the 1960's. You need Usain Bolt's leg to work the pedal and the throw goes into the next province (and if you don't live anywhere where there are provinces, it's still true). The People's Vehicle - maybe the Bug, but not the van.

If you believe automatic transmissions make people lazy - and I agree 100%! - wait for those flipping self-drive cars.

As for learning some driving skills in videogames, it can happen, especially if you have decent controllers. A game is absolutely no replacement for the real thing, but as a supplement, it can definitely make a positive difference. Or a negative one if your only driving game is Wreckfest.
