What sort of mods? Cars? Tracks? Graphics? Weather? TBH racedepartment is a good indicator of a mods quality, the ranking system is pretty reliable.

Ok start like this.

Content manager - far improved UI and adjustability within the game.
Sol - Dynamic weather and day/night cycle
Custom Shaders Patch - Improved graphics and features (soon to include proper rain and wet tracks)

Tracks:

LA Canyons - free version includes 40km of road. VIp takes that to over 100km
Fonteny - Fictional track based on real French roads
Toscana - Circuit track
Transfagarasen - 23km of Romanian hillclimb (as seen on The Grand Tour)
Alto Tajo - Spanish hillclimb

There'as plenty more but they're the ones I play regularly.

Cars is wide and varied, from crap free models through to astounding free mods, crap paid mods to fantastic paid mods. If you are happy to pay outfits like Guerilla Mods, VRC, URD I've had good experience with, but for example some of URD's mods are virtually abandonware and have issue. Their 2018 DTM pack is excellent in my opinion, especially with the real names/liveries mod. My go to car is currently a 964 911 Carrera RS that I found on *ahem* assettoland. That site is hit and miss, mostly miss as a lot of the cars haven't been updated. But you can find some gems there.

Join Facebook groups (eg assetto corsa mod central) for more options, look at what ranks high on racedepartment.com, and do your research. Some car mods are poorly optomised and will kill fps with full grids but are fine for hotlapping or small grids. Same with some tracks. Shuto Revival Project is an am amazing track but my system (RTX2080, i7-9700, 32gb ram) struggles to hit 90fps in VR with just me, whereas I can run grids of 25 cars on most other tracks at 90. Le Man is another example of this.

AC is a fantastic game that I go to most nights (it's addictive in VR) but it requires a bit of tinkering to get it right, and sometimes you'll break something and you won't be able to play. There's great discord groups that if you ignore the inner politics have some very experienced modders who can help with issues. AC Custom Shaders and Sol - WeatherFX groups are very helpful if you run these patches. Which you should.

You'll find a lot of these mod's (incl Sol) on racedepartment, get custom shaders patch and content manager at https://acstuff.ru/app/ and https://acstuff.ru/patch/

All good, just make sure you follow the installation instructions as laid out. Most game break issues are down to sloppy installs of mods.
