How to drift?
Hi, I recently bought this game because a friend said it could run on any computer and it was really good for drifting. Of course, I don't have a wheel and all I have is a controller (and a keyboard xd). Let's take two cars, for example the AE86 (normal) and AE86 (Drift Edition).

I can't drift the AE86, but the AE86 Drift Edition is even harder, in fact, extremely hard to drift with compared to the normal edition, it's too slippery and fast, but my friend told me they were built to be easy to drift.

Sooo, can someone please teach me how to drift these "Drift Edition" cars and make them drift like it's on ice (if you get me) Help is very appreciated.

watch youtube videos and practice. something you have to research on your own and do trial/error. though good luck with a controller im sure plenty of people do it but good luck!

If your friend has a wheel, he has forgotten to tell you that a controller is even harder to master than a wheel. I do have a controller too, but drifting with it is something that I'm not even gonna try.

You see the ''ice'' thing you speak of, is by always keeping the front tyres pointing dead on the target route. There is very little movement even on a wheel to alter the outcome.
This should in theory be then extremely finicky only with a stick vs ''900~'' deg rotation, unless gamma change or code maybe as compensation? But, I dunno if that even exists.
Trottle and brakes is also a bit shorter in length than pedals too.
Handbreak, clutch and gears is ''on/off'' though.

You're not really in for the true potential AC can offer, cause built for wheels mainly.

if you want a more percise drifting feel thats a god alternative to controllers, then use mouse steering

the ae86 and 86 drift edition is more or less tailored to folks with actual racing wheels, i suggest using something like that BMW drift car everyone uses for practice and practice on an actual track.

you also need to find a good tune for the cars, a baseline is usually high rear tire pressure, negative front camber yada yada

It's so easy to reach a full lock on controller vs wheel, you will do fine. Try the BMW e30 stock.

one thing the helps getting the back going quickly and fairly under control is the settings of the rear. I remove all camber and toe (zeroing out the numbers), slightly higher tire pressure. From that point the rear will have minimal grip and pretty much as soon as you turn in the back will start going, after that throttle control and slight steering input. Takes time, so far I have reach level 15, still working on it. Just started to get into it. Also the drift version of the cars have a very high steering angle, look at the replay and you will notice that the full lock is way further than a regular version.

There's no motorsport that don't use the handbrake(In initial D they are racing) & drifting riding the outside without handbrake is an american hollywood vomit.

First step, get a wheel.

Are you sure? I never use the handbrake. Just use a drift car with more than 500 hp and just floor it. And use the brake pedal instead to alter the front.

I've never used the handbrake in AC. Clutch is all you need.

Nobody ever ever mentiones Drift Bible, it is the holy grail and will get you up to speed. BTW GET A WHEEL!!!! A good one, that has very fast rotation speed. I have a T500 and that is pretty fast.

Practice menu start at 41:27.

My example is the same, but adapting for the simulator. Using real technique is not 100% efficient.

Sim racing is about how driving is like and attempted to base that handling and steering on it.

Using the handbrake is just another part of drifting, there are things you will struggle to do without use of the handbrake.

Using the handbrake help you to profit of the driving model of the game. Sure you can drift without using it, but doing it, feel so backstreetboy with reversed cap & look like a mess to watch.

In Initial D they are racing & trail braking lead to oversteer in real life. Basically an exaggeration of racing at the limit.

AC supports analog handbrake though.
I even have one.
