Playing on the HTC VIVE
Ive got this game installed and running just fine without VR but want to play it on my Vive. ive done some research and it looks like i have to use Occulus home software and something called Revive.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4jyi36/assetto_corsa_works_with_revive/

I havent downloaded the oculus software yet because I was hoping I wouldnt have to I tried just running it with switching rendering to Occulus and also Open VR, Netiher works. This game still doesnt have Vive support? Just wondering because it lists Vive on the store page. Maybe I am doing somthing wrong?

thinking if i have to do all of that messing around with the occulus software it might not be worth doing and Ill just not play it, unless its not too hard to do. Afraid it will be buggy and take hours to set up.

I also have Project Cars. Is it setup with native Vive support or is it the same mess?

Thanks for any help.

No Oculus software needed.

In OPTIONS / VIDEO set the RESOLUTION to your desktop resolution, and set RENDER to OPENVR EARLY ACCESS.

Ok. thanks. I tried that but all I got was the blank white room like when you are loading up a VR game. The room you get when you are transitioning from your home to the game. Plain white room with nothing in it.

I think I read that it only gives you a picture when you are driving the car? Im thinking that I had the screen on the tv that shows the car sitting there running. Not sure if I clicked on the steering wheel icon on the screen to bring up the shot of the cockpit. Maybe I didnt go far enough into it?

Maybe I didnt check the open vr render. I know I did the occulus option. Ill have to try running it again.

So after setting the "openvr early access" the VR will work only when driving the cars. All the menu selections are done on the monitor. This game is a number of years old now, and was not designed for VR support, but it works very well in VR, but just for driving and not menu selection.

You might need to cycle through the camera views (F1 key I think) to find the correct camera view for VR.

ALSO, make sure the Vive is running, and SteamVR is running before starting Assetto Corsa.

That is one thing I did not know about. Thanks.

With your help I was able to get it to run great. I think my mistake was that I tried to run Steam VR after I was already in the game. I ran Steam VR first then booted up the game and the window popped up to tell me it was running in VR. I knew I was on the right track.

Once in the cockpit the picture was incredible, just like real life IMO. I actually own a 911 turbo and drive it on the track a few times a year and felt like I was in it on the track! I chose the 911 R to run in during the game.

BIG PROBLEM THOUGH. For some reason my wheel wont work in the VR. Turning the wheel does nothing nor does hitting the gas or brake. Nothing on the controller works. I turn off the VR and run it in normal mode and the wheel works great.

I am triyng to use the Driving Force GT wheel. I have it setup through the Logitech game app just fine and it runs great in the game, but for some reason it wont work in VR.

Any ideas?

I even tried using the keyboard for controls and it does nothing too. I cant even escape out of the game. To get out I used the vive controller to close down VR and the game goes to the game selection scrreen.

Wondering if it is a setting in the logitech app. Global settings or something? Maybe it is running only in Assetto Corsa and I need to add in steam vr or maybe set it to run on everything?

THINK I FOUND THE FIX

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4qmeta/assetto_corsa_steering_wheel_not_working_in_vr/

Says "You have to make sure both AA and post processing are either enabled or disabled. If one is enabled and the other disabled, you will not see the UI required to start the race and engage the wheel."

So it seems I wasnt able to click the wheel icon to start the race. Something to fool with tomorrow.

If anyone has more to add please do. Thanks for the help. I will come back on here with a description of what I find when I try this fix so that if someone else has the problem they can find the answer here.

WHen I was sitting in the cockpit I could see the menu in the top left hand corner of the cab, part of it was going through the roof of the car. Guess I have to click on something in there with my mouse? Ill see what happens when i change the graphics settings. Not sure how I will click on the wheel icon to start.

In Main Menu \ Settings \ Steering, did you assign the steering wheel and pedals to the game controls, then name the profile and save the profile..... then load the profile. Each time I start the game I have to load the profile for the steering to work.

But I use a T-300, and don't know how the Logitech profile stuff works.

I made a profile and it seems to be there each time I boot the game. The wheel also works just fine in regular mode. I think it has to do with the aa and post processing settings like what I found on reddit. Seems that I was sitting there in the car but had not actually started yet. The opening screen in regular mode is different. it shows the car sitting on the track with the door open and it empty. In VR you are actually already in the car, sitting down with your hands on the wheel already. I didnt realize that I have to click on another button to start. Ill have to look at it tomorrow. The VR is a bit unpolished as far as UI goes. The 3d graphics though are incredible IMO. much better than I expected! Cant wait to start driving it.

OK, the steering will work once you start driving. The APPs section is found oto the right of the drivers view, hover the mouse cursor to the right to make the APP menu visible. And the mouse cursor is a yellow dot in VR, different to the arrow used on the monitor, although you might se both in VR, just ignore the arrow and use the Yellow dot.
