The purpose of VR is for you to feel like you are present in the world of the game- its a really big disconnect not using a wheel and a massive immersion creation when you use a wheel and pedals- especially if you have some sim-vibration feedback.
If you're in VR for the immersion factor... you really need to be looking at an FFB wheel for the exact same reason. Get saving :-P
Mouse steering is pretty good and precise enough for nuanced steering. I've been testing graphics settings and using mouse steering IN MY VR for about an hour now, because I don't want to plug in my wheel. There is a lot of fun to be had.
Racing sims with a good wheel and a VR headset is one of the few VR experiences you can truly lose yourself completely in, and feel like you're really inside a vehicle racing. Take the wheel away, and you might not take away the fun, but you'll lose that feeling.
Chase view in VR with Project Cars 2 was actually quite good FUN in an arcadey way...As I mentioned 7 months ago...
Sitting behind an LMP around LeMans was quite exilerating...the sound of the external engine, the sparks, and a great feeling of speed that you don't get on a screen.
If you wasn't such a ♥♥♥♥ I would have suggested you try it before pointing your finger and laughing...but alas.
