Yes you need all the server content in order to join it successfully.

Unlike Raceroom Experience, in AC you cannot join server if you miss even one car from there

Make sure to tick the box with "DLC" on the server browser, that will hide all the servers you wont be able to join for having missing dlcs

Much as I love this game, that system is damned stupid.

The alternative to allow joining of non-DLC servers is that you have DLC cars and tracks you haven't purchased but will be taking up space on your harddrive- effectively meaning cars are `locked` away on your PC until you pay money.

Maybe I wasn't clear but AC does not store DLCs on your PC waiting for you to pay to `unlock` them to use them.

DLCs are not downloaded until purchased, the alternative is to have them on your HDD locked away until you do, which IMO is a far worse business practise because my HDD isn't a storage device for developers to put all their content on and have them lock it away from me until I pay.

If I decide to not purchase DLC, like with Pcars, its still taking up space on my PC, sure it allows me to join a race with content I don't own but can't use it but I don't care, I don't own it anyway.
