How to enable slipstream

I'm new to the game, is there somewhere I need to enable 'slipstream' in order for this effect to work? I'm running a race VS AI driving the same car as me and I see zero effect despite having dialed it up to 5x. Inentionally tailing the AI cars I can't gain a meter if I let em pass on a straight match speed and then floor it.

I'm sorry to say that you might need some practice. Slipstream works just fine in 1x.

I'm new to AC, not to racing. I can overtake these cars while cornering, it is just very odd that there isn't any effect even with that multiplier all dialed up, slipstream is not a effect so subtle it should be hard to detect.

Depends pretty much on the car - the more aerodynamic it is (and power it has), the more it's noticeable. I'm pretty sure you'll notice (and actually hear) it in a F1 car.
