I can't even come close to winning the first race in career mode. Am I doomed to suck forever?
That first single model race with the Fiats... even with the opponent strength setting at 80% I've never managed to not come last. I got golds on the time attacks in the same series on the first attempt, though, so something seems off with the learning curve...

Am I doing something wrong?

Awesome game though, by the way. Possibly the best racing game around, IMO.

Welp, to be honest to you, I really don't know what to say, all I gotta say is practice a lot in racing and you'll make it.

get into your car settings .. adjust toe, tire pressure, fuel on board, and do them one at a time .... if you do more than 1 then you will never know what change did what. Thats what hot laps are for when tweeking your car to find the "setup" thats right for you.

Practice practice practice and then practice some more... I know that sounds crappy, but it's the only way to get better and then eventually you will easily beat that first race.

Try hotlapping the track with the same car to remove the stress of opponents untill you find yourself beating the laptime of the fastest car in that career mode.

Messing with settings as suggested by diamond482 will help once you get your driving up to par.

Changing setting before knowing the track and car will not help you in the least. Even small changes can drastically effect the way the car behaves and will require more laps to get used to these behaviours.

So, just paractice and you will get there sooner than you think

I suggest pressing F11 to activate the mirror, and also install an app called Helicorsa to see what's happening around you. You'll avoid unnecessary incidents.
The car is FWD so it tends to understeer (slide out of the corner) if you apply gas during cornering, as soon as you lift the gas it gains a lot of front grip. So, lifting the gas even a bit will get you a lot of grip in corners, make the car flow through them, use the kerbs to get a faster line through the corners. Also, the darker parts of the tarmac have slightly more grip. Find your braking points and get consistent at braking. The little Fiat is supe fun to drive on twisty tracks like Magione.

Don't worry DodMan, I hold first and second place records for Nordschleife in my country and I couldn't beat them.

Forget the "practice and setup" BS. It aint gonna work.

Do what I did. Turn off penalties and cut the crap off the corner before the hairpin. You will get in front of all of them and all is left is to keep them from passing you. I got Gold and was on my merry way.

Cheating I know, but I wasn't about to be stuck on first race against Fiats.

Lol if you need to cheat to win the first races then what hope have you got in any others. Im fairly sure simply learning the track and being able to stay on it OP should be able to get past this at the 80% difficulty.

If you resort to cheating your only cheating yourself and at that point you may as well not even bother and find something else to occupy your time.

The tire pressure on track need to stay green & even on track. On road car, in most cases is max camber, because the suspension is too soft & the car roll a lot.

It's a setup guide & some general driving tips

Alignment & pressure is a big deal in AC. You don't need to read the whole guide as it is intended to play at much higher difficulty. The basic exploit section is enough to clear the first race without much driving skill involved at the minimum difficulty.

**Very important
Read the General Driving Tips

Also getting gold on time attacks doesn't say much sometimes, especially with the challenges. Some are a cakewalk, others are nearly impossible at bronze.

Rubbish.

As someone who currently holds 40 odd lap records at this circuit in game I'm telling you practise and setup make a massive difference, the closest I've came with stock setup in this race is 2nd, with less fuel and lower PSI 1st place is easy.
RinChanMeow Sep 2, 2017 @ 1:29pm
The 500 does massively understeer with the setup they give you. Read the little tooltips you get in the settings and maybe look into what everything does some more online. My problem with that race series was actually getting the car around the cormers, and changing the setup slightly made it alot easier to get gold

Hi, I feel you. The first race seems like it's harder. Maybe it's because it's not the type of performance cars I'm used to driving in other games.

I didn't do too well turning on the 1st lap, because I was trying to turn like driving performance cars. I went wide on corners and then overcompensated and cut a corner.

I recently tried this game again and the 2nd part (N2) had BMWs. It was so much easier. So I'm glad I didn't give up after that 1st race. There's more racing fun to be had.

Do you have a lot experience with racing games? Are you using a wheel or controller? If you're somewhat new to racing games you may struggle. Also to note, is you don't need to win races in AC's career mode, but meet the level/stage requirements ie. 3 bronzes, 2 bronzes + 1 silver etc. In some stages it's impossible to win races as the lead cars will be of a different class/make.

As for your question: Am I doing something wrong? If you want to do well, and you're not somebody who plays racing games a lot, you'll need practice, and lots of it.

As a comparison I just attempted the race with no pratice (although I have close to 1000 hours in the game) with the standard setup:

First race:
80% AI
1st place
Total time: 3:20

Second race:
100% AI
4th place
Total time: 3:17

You're quite correct they won't work if you still have to end up cheating and cutting corners because lack of racing skill.

makes me feel better, played about 30 minutes and thought maybe i was doing something wrong

I don't know if you are still interested but i have just finished the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ race (also on 80% difficulty). I just lowered the psi of the tyres and got rid of half of the gas. It makes such a huge difference, I couldn't believe it at first. You just zoom past them.:praisesun::praisesun::praisesun:
