Using TC and ABS in GT Cars?
I know the rhetoric of sim racing is to turn off all assists, and I do. In AC, theres a factory option for the TC and ABS settings, but are GT cars and such supposed to have them on? Just a note, it's been a while since my last sim style racing game, and I'm more of a novice-average player (playing with a G27).
So I've been using the GT-R GT3, and on the starting line I've been struggling to keep it straight in 2nd gear while the AI have no issues going straight forward and passing me if I'm not precise in my throttle control. I figured maybe they have assists on by default since theyre AI, and I tried Factory assists (stability off). It was much easier, but a bit much, so I turned ABS off, and TC to 1/7 for now.

I thought that in real life races there wouldn't be TC and ABS in the cars, but if so, which classes would use them? Would it even be recommended to have assists on in those classes even at minimal levels (e.g. TC 2/8)?

GT3 have ABS and TCS, GT2 might have TCS but no ABS but I'm not certain, it doesn't interest me as a series. Stability control is a fictional force in Assetto Corsa so it's best to disable it completely.

Yes, no ABS for GT2

Correct for GT3 too by and large but GT3 and GTE cars are used in different race series' where some of them have different TC and ABS rules
Also the ABS or TC setting numbering system sees the lower numbers being the most intrusive, higher the number the less assistance it gives

I've seen a lot of things about that online, so I've kept it off.

Interesting, I would've thought that higher number would mean more assist. Would explain why with TC 1/7 on the GTR I was slower than 4/7

Seriously stability control is such BS, you can hit a corner at way to much speed and just break all the way though it without skidding out. GT4 has no abs or tc iirc.
That is one of my favorite things about assetto is that you can use the factory settings. GT3 has abs and tc but GT2/Gte only allow tc.

I never understood the mentality that all assists should be off to be honest. If the real car uses it, then why wouldn't I? Most players in Assetto are pretty cool about that.

It would be nice though if there was more flexibility when setting up a server (So you could say allow ABS but set the level. Now it is only "Factory", "Force" or not allow at all. )

Pro tip:
The TC setting, as has been mentioned, is reverse of what the(confusing) help text explains.
You've probably experienced feeling like there is too much TC kicking in for seemingly no reason. Too much TC (most GT2/3 cars default) may give you ultimate control while costing you time. Use the TC setting to dial in how much throttle steer you need to get the car to rotate, and to get a strong launch when exiting slow corners. Tires have maximum grip when they are slipping.
Dial the number up for less traction but more speed, and dial it down for better control and tire wear.
I like a lively setup and actually use less TC(a higher value) on tracks with tight hairpins and chicanes, which may also seem counterintuitive. To me, the value of having TC is in fast, full throttle sweepers and switchbacks. I would use more TC at Mugello than at Monza, for instance.
