Acceptable ping for multiplayer racing?
Is racing with 300ms going to cause any weird sync problems?

It can be acceptable when your connection is stable but the ping is high because of the distance. I've raced against players with red ping indicator and was safe enough, but still not much experience with far away players from the server.

In my case I am an expat in China so my ping is rather high, although I have a very stable connection. In my experience 0-200 is good, 200-300 is doable, then up to 400-450 and in most cases that's the limit. If the other players have low pings it is doable. If some of the other players have high pings, too, instead, you want to keep your distance from them as the sum of the two pings is the time required 1) to see where they are 2) for them to see where you are. So if your ping is 400 and their ping is 400 it means that overall your position and their position is refreshed every 800 ms, which means you have almost a second of delay, which can be fatal in close racing. If your ping is going up and down it is even worse, because that will cause sudden "jumps" of the car as the prediction code cannot work well. So you have to decide case by case. One thing I do when my ping is high is asking the other players if they see my car stable enough. If they tell me I am jumping around, I leave the server.

Cool, I'm an expat myself but in Taiwan. I usually just play the single player content in fear of riding with high ping and maybe ruining someones ride because of it, thanks for the info.

Traitors the pair of you. I moved to south africa for about 8 years and god it was nice to finally return to a civilized country, the sun gets old pretty fast but the lazy locals just got more and more annoying.

Anyway the point of my story, I played Race07 and GTR2 with friends in the UK with around 300 ping with very little problems at all for years, the slight lag was there and noticable when you know what to look for but as long as you are aware of it and not get 2 inch from someone elses rear bumper then you should be fine.

A good way for you to see for yourself is join one of the Banditos Nords trackday servers and drive with some randoms and see how it goes, and dont worry about ruining other peoples drive in that server cos its just full of idiots, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and kids and no one cares if you upset them right?

Or what about joining the Aussie hosted servers? your ping should be fairly low and those Aussie servers are nearly always busy with good track and car selections.

Either way, good luck and happy racing

I think in general its best to ask in chat if others see it as acceptable, for me personally on my servers if someone has a stable 300 ping I have no issues with them being there. Unstable high ping connections will cause much more warping but in general when joining a server with a higher ping try to give a little more room to cars around you.

I have had some good close races with 350 ping guys when I have a ping of 34 but if your also racing another guy with a 300+ ping then this will make it quite a bit more laggy between the 2 of you and will need to give considerably more room.

If AC had ping limits then I would possibly run some servers for locals only but also leave some open to about 360 ping as its good to race other people from different parts of the world too.

My servers however already have fairly strict minorating limits so people that get in will normaly be fairly clean and respectful drivers so the higher pings arent as big an issue.

I'm really surprised we can race with a ping of 150-300, while we can't play a game like cs go with such a ping. Can someone give me an explanation?

I would imagine with something CS:GO- more things have to be synced by every user. This means not only the player position but a projectile coming from that person hitting or missing a target- this has to be done with multiple players with different weapons- theres a lot to sync up.

With Assetto Corsa there is only player cars to sync across the server, therefore latency can be as high as 300m/s+ without affecting the race for other players.
