Bad Controller Steering
At first, I was really surprised about the good Reviews, so I bought it. But then i started my Controller and went to the Settings. Set everything up and started a race. The Steering .... it works like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥. The Steering is virtualy not visible and a mess. Am I dumb?
I'm using a Xbox 360 Cotnroller. I changed the sensitivity but nothin happens.
Does anyone got tips for "good" steering with a controller?
I got no 300$ left for a G29 or G26.

There is no proper joypad suport, and no matter what settings you use, it will at best be somewhat controlable. However they have just tried to adapt the steeringwheel software to a controler. So they use the axis of the thumbstick like a steeringwheel axis, and that will never work because flicking your stick to one side will translate like turning your steeringwheel till it locks. That's why as soon as you use a joypad every time you steer the tires will squeel because you are turning you wheel till they lock and back fast enough to get pointed in the right direction. You can get a jowpad to be a quite decent racing sim interface. Forza, Dirt and many others have proven this. But with A.C. they haven't bothered.

You can't turn the joystick of the gamepad all the way to the left and right, you need to just move it the right amount. Use cockpit cam to see the car's steering wheel so that you acknowledge how much you're steering the car.
Default settings are good enough, load the xbox360 preset from the left side on the Controls menu page.

I prefer the following with my wired 360 pad:
  • Steering Speed = 55 - 85 (~70)
  • Gamma = 1.2 - 1.4 (~1.3)
  • Filter = 0.00
  • Deadzone = 0.00

Steering Speed can make vehicles act twitchy at higher settings, due to near-instant 'turning' of virtual steering wheel when set to max. A higher steer speed will equate to faster virtual turning of the wheel to the input destination. Comfort varies from user-to-user.

Gamma affects distance of steering input needed while also seeming to overcompensate. Setting of 1.0 is default '1:1' input, while a setting of 2.4 will result in having to move analog stick (steer) further with less impact at first (small movement), but drastic effects like sudden oversteer past a point/radius, horizontally.

Filter tends to soften/delay erratic steering inputs.

Deadzone refers to a precise area of input sensitivity - a greater number demands further accuracy necessary to steer vehicles. Otherwise, loose & effortless; moving slider further to right allows 'tightening-up' of controls (analog stick).
