Its very near to realism in AC. But you dont have the important thing no simulator can give you... the "popometer"´... you have no forces pushing you. And these forces are relevant for drifting in real life.
Edit: Sry for the bad english... hope you understand what i wanted to say...
Edit 2: The differential-simulation isn´t that great in AC
Open this link with Assetto Corsa and you will see a crazy drift session.

But as far as track conditions and tires what do you reccommend?
And any pointers for the ae86 drift? The damn thing is schizophrenic.
The link a few posts back will lead you to a OneDrive doc, called "Aliens crazy drift session". It shows an Assetto Corsa replay of a 10 minute drift session on the drift track, following the line shown in the picture I posted above. Once you see the OneDrive doc you can open it with Assetto Corsa to view the replay.
The AE86 is a little bit harder to drift (if oyu dont have a clutch like me) because lack of power. but like all things in life... practize practize practize and it will get easier and easier.
Okey dokey.
I finally got my drift session onto youtube.... Aliens crazy drift session.
