Check out the above youtube it's from a Kunos employee and in the episode he talks about the racing line and how you can learn and go faster, in other videos he will talk about weight transfer and basic set up tips, oh and also he compares real life to assetto corso too.
One of the main reasons I recommend off (for line) is when you race there will be situations where staying on the line you'll not be able to do and you've become too dependant on it, feel lost and make mistakes. For example overtaking a car equal to you may need you to pass around several corners cleanly as they aren't just going to give up the place to you with out a fight, the excuse "I was slightly ahead so my racing line" is not acceptable and moving on to this line early will cause a crash and you'll blame them but if a mod/ steward is present you'll be penalised. Having the line off all those mistakes you have made in the past, you'll have knowledge from , for keeping it on the track and going around a corner on different lines helping you and others to have a fantastic racing experience and gain respect of others driving with you.
No raceline, no car stability control helper, shifting manual, ABS and Traction Control to position default (It means they are only there if the car has it in reality). And then jump in one of these funny old cars like Ford Escort, Alfa Romeo GTA and use a track like Brands Hatch, Nurburgring GP or Zaandvort and have fun. Watch Aris Video`s https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXjZ1ncvNt3iNvUkCgWIx6Q they are very helpful and funny.
And when you are able to control these cars and you own the Porsche DLC`s jump into the 917 K and ride the beast. And if this car get´s to easy to handle, try the 917-30 turbo spyder or this very, very nasty Maseraty V12 Formula one. Go on to more difficult tracks. More modern cars will be easy to drive after mastering the old beasts, especially the GT 3 class ones.
