What is the correct RPM for downshifting?
Specifically for these cars:

Porsche 962c long tail
Porsche 962c short tail
Porsche 908 LH
Porsche 917 K
Mazda 787B

Trying to downshift in these cars in exasperating (and no, I'm not at 8,000 rpm)

There is no real correct revolution, that will vary from turn to turn, track to track and gear to gear. Just try and heal and toe so you get smooth downshifts basically - if you find the rear trying to overtake the front you're doing it wrong.
Thanks.

I'm just doing practice laps in these cars. I've brought the RPMs down below 3000 and the speed next to nothing, yet I get the shift warning and that horrible grinding.
i dont have to watch any rpms! just learn how to heel and toe! these old cars need some gas on downshifts.

Thank you!

I'm wondering, is this possible without a clutch/with an automatic clutch?

I was using the SSH Shifter (no clutch) and up-shifting was okay, but downshifting caused lots of problems.

I went back to using the sequential shifter on my wheel, and the downshifting problem has completely disappeared :steamfacepalm:
I tested my H shifter without the clutch when I first got it and it is doable, but when you shift without the clutch you have to ensure that you rev match properly and depending on the car nearly perfectly which requires a bit of practice and observation. Damage to the transmission narrows the window of acceptable RPM, and makes you more likely to miss shifts and thus cause more damage. It isn't bad for a fun drive, but it isn't going to be as fast and reliable as having a clutch. You could turn damage off and make it a little bit easier. I don't believe you can get any of the autoclutch features to work with an h-shifter set up.
Thank you.

I did manage to downshift properly a few times with auto clutch and the SSH Shifter, but it takes a LOT of practice, and made the whole thing a chore.
I would always recommend a manual clutch, even if that means an unrealistic setup like a clutch button. AC's auto clutch has always been problematic, it never seems to know when to engage or for how long.
