Pedals over revving at various points
I'm getting plenty of problems setting this up tonight! The over revving issue is an odd one, I can be on a track and sort of get playing but if I spin out, hit grass or anything that makes me slow to a stop, I get mega over revving and undriveable car. I check and recheck the calibration software for the T300 pedals though it doesn't do actual calibration of these. I switched off the game, the wheel and started it all again. No better.

Anyone else familiar with this?

Sounds like the auto clutch. When your car goes off track and into the gravel or on the grass and you try to move from a stand-still, the game activates the clutch for you. Like slipping the clutch in a real car.

while your in your chosen car and about to leave the pit, move your mouse over to the right to bring up tyre app. You'll probably see when this happens your tyres are red hot and therefore past the normal operation of the tyre to keep traction. Driving on grass will also caaus ethe tyre to lose traction and on RWD unless you catch it , decrease throttle input , you'll spin too.

Ugh so it's a feature? Wow, I should have bought pedals with a clutch I guess. Makes it very hard to work with.

Are high performance cars anything like this tricky to handle at low speeds? I'll have another look, thanks for coming back to me both of you.
Last night I was getting full throttle sticking after a couple of minutes!

The "auto-clutch" at crawling-pace driven-wheel(s)-speeds is still in effect for those of us using 3 pedals + h-shifter. Workaround: keep the (driven) wheels spinning at all times :P
Probably sucks for drifting, this - yet the judges IRL would likely down-vote a drift with partially locked-up wheels. But yeah: I would like that stuff to be switchable, as well - as it can break immersion at times as well as making the learning-experience tougher all-round.

It is one of these deliberate design-decisions made by Stefano that not everyone feels enthusiastic about. Much like the "I cannot stall my engine" idiosyncrasy found in the game, allowing you to get away with stuff that would end your race in a real-world starter-less race-car (e.g. F1). I am not that keen on open-wheelers, anyway - so I don't mind that as much as other players do.

It's a terrible design choice, why on earth is it a benefit? Ok, might be such a newbie I can't tell the obvious but it's awful to learn drifting with.

I did get a good half hour this morning with a couple of clean laps on one track, so I was right to get the wheel, this kind of game it utterly impossible on a keyboard.

It's tempting to go for an Occulus too but I need to get shot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ first. I'm not quite sure if I've chosen the ideal game for learning to drift with but I need to give it another ten hours to be sure :P

Try the BMW M3 E30 drift car, it has the power needed to easily start drifting, but handles well also and is easy to keep on the track. Just keep practising,it will take a few hours and then it will all pay off.

I use the Vive and the gameplay is so immersive, I love it, could never go back to driving games on a monitor.

It's an awesome choice to learn drifting in, I watched a 'learn to drift' video from real life and picked it up within an hour, same techniques are transferable between real life and sim, and as Aris said 'if you can drift in game than you can do it in real life'

What are you saying is a bad design choice for learning to drift? Can't say I use the clutch much while drifting

For a beginner, trying to get going at all and finding I'm just sat redlined at any point where I'm stopped or nearly stopped--that's a bad design choice. That's all. And yeah, I accept I've done so little simulated racing stuff that I don't know wtf I'm on about likely, but it feels like an extra learning curve I didn't need.

I think the answer was to go to an auto box, no auto clutch but I'm clutching at straws a bit :P

Such a wrong time of year for me to want to buy an Occulus LOL.

Not sure I understand how or why you're 'sat redlined'? Wheels spinning?

Auto box won't be any good for drifting, I'd suggest driving the BMW drift car that has paddle shift, then you can untick auto clutch as clutch is not needed, this'll take the autoclutch out of the equation - see if your problem still exists then

Do you have the pedal app up on screen, what's it show when your redlining?

Just got home from family so I'll look tomorrow and try :). Thank you.
I am not a drifter, really, but I learn a new thing or two every time I watch Keiichi Tsuchiyas "Drift Bible" video (available on youtube).
Oldie but goldie. I encourage you to spend at least one full hour with that video and watch it in full as it is full of basic theory and practical how-to segments.

Thanks Simon.

Excellent advice Bondyboy and Alien Identity.

I reran the wizard, the wheels calibrated, I finally playing the game I bought and managed a few clean drifts round the centre bit of the Japanese drift track in the BMW. Chuffed it works.

Now makes me want an Occulus LOL.
