select your units:
F2 -> aggressive (auto-attack, approach directly and close up)
F3 -> evasive (auto-attack, fighters with more movement, capitals stay farther away)
F4 -> passive (only attack what the player selected)
I've captured 6 ion frigates and set their formation to line. They crawl in this position and don't attack at all. When I've canceled all formation, they immediately started to rain fire....
And while they were being destroyed by destroyer, they just tried to fix formation in turtle speed. Nothing else.
Also interceptors stop attacking and just stand there. Aggressive stance. Formations looks like they break gameplay.
Also - repair corvette often don't repair anything.
Mission 4 (this when we retaliate) is super hard for me - more than 20 years of gaming experience mostly with strategies and with ships I've captured in previous missions, AI has ridiculous amount of units. Their frigates don't die. 6 bombers can't destroy even one.... I don't get it. I am not even close to winning. When I've managed to destroy their capital ship, they had swarm of their ships destroying mine... And bombers were bombing them for few minutes doing maybe 10% of one ships hp...
Indeed:
When I've turned off all formations, I've won. But still - their simplest fighters survived for like 10 minutes of non stop fighting my 6 assault frigates and captured destroyer. When I've sent against their about 10 interceptors non stop fighting my frigates 3 waves of 15 interceptors each, my interceptors got destroyed in 20 seconds every time... Something is VERY wrong with ships fighting in remastered edition.
It's like my ships fight like drunk idiots while their ships are piloted by the very elite.
In HWR the formation are borken. When they did the game, they used Homeworld 2 engine, which was not made with formation in mind (Formation are HW1 & HW Cataclysm feature, it was not used in HW2).
Some player tried to fix it (see the players patch in workshop, which I highly recommand to use) but it's still not working as well as it was in HW1/HWC.
As for the amount of unit the enemy get, it's thanks to the dynamic unit scaling feature (Thanks HW2). If you download the player patch you can set up the scaling.
For Homeworld 1 you can set 0.6 to be closer to what the original game was. For Homeworld 2, 1 is the value from HW2 Classic.

Yea, I've figured out that formations can make game unfun. I am a lot more aware now during fights. Now I've cleared mission 9 without much problems. Still, it's a shame that such interesting feature has been neglected and underdeveloped (supposedly newest patch was supposed to fix it). There was something really cool looking at interceptors and bombers in > formation, etc. or guarding in circle.
I've started using Players Patch and some issues were fixed.
Still - game is very alluring, even though far from perfect.
Vent: why does save game list is not sorted by date!??!?!?!?! :(
