Is this game worth it for single player?
Are both Campaign and Skirmish modes against the AI are any good?

Is there different difficulty settings?

Any detail you can give about the Single Player experience, will be very helpful!

Thanks for the info!

Depends on how skilled you are but the single player can be tough.

If you enjoy a good story this game is deff worth a pickup. Especially when it’s on sale!!! If you like it enough there’s also 2 other games of this series (Deserts of kharak “prequel” and Emergence “aka cataclysm, which comes after hw1 but before hw2”).

That's good to know! I'll take a look on them.

I'm actually PRETTY bad at strategy games, but I love them. Hahaha

The singleplayer is the only thing I ever do. There is quite a lot of variety to it, and the story is extremely well thought out (look up the manual for this game, has a huge section for the pre-history of the first game and the mothership). It definetly requires skill and some trial-and-error in both campaigns.

The skirmish mode can be fun as well, though multiplayer was a secondary feature with this game. The main thing the original devs worked on was the campaigns.

That's nice to know. I'm very inclined to buying it. I've been watching some videos, and the game looks really amazing. I'll probably end up buying it.

I just completed the final mission on single player (remastered). Wierd thing is the start of the final mission took several attempts to avoid mothership being destroyed (finally just captured the enemy heavy cruiser -which was doing most damage to the MS - with salvage corvettes).

But once I got over that hurdle it was easy enough. Had to defeat more waves (detected far out this time so I had enough warning to go out and squish them). Then after a few of these waves the defecting captain guy jumps in on top of you and gives you a pair of destroyers and a bunch of frigates.

Detected a wave of enemy bombers incoming shortly after that & launched my full complement of fighters from the carrier to intercept). Finally decided to deal with the enemy carrier then, so I sent my cruiser and destroyer squadrons off in that direction.

About this time I got the message 'the emperor is gone' and screen goes to cinematic mode showing a bentusi ship and 'mission successful' message & all the semi-animated cutscene remastered stuff after that.

How the hell did I win the mission though? I hadn't even yet crossed the map to fight the emperors flagship and the large fleet. Is the game bugged, or was the enemy mothership destroyed by the rebels or another 3rd party on the far side of the map??

Yeah I got stuck on a mission with all the radioactive clouds. I wanted to play multi too but wanna beat campaign first :). Also too bad no Linux supprot or I'd play it more.

edit: sorry no I'm stuck on mission 16. wow I don't think you can cloak mothership with just one cloak?

Tried replaying final mission and I get mission success again without getting the satisfaction of destroying the emperors mothership. Captain Elson must have an invincible ship or something that you can't win the final mission by yourself.

You can destroy his mothership yourself, it just takes being a little agressive. When I played the campain I dealt with the first couple of fleets attacking my mothership before sending the 3/4 biggest ships i had towards the emperor along with a couple of ion cannon frigates and most of my remaining fighters. kept my mothership alive with salvage corvettes repairing, the other half of my fleet and rebuilding stuff with the resourses i had.

It's definatly possible, risky as hell, but possible.
