This latest patch cranked up the VRAM usage even higher. I swear, almost every new game has VRAM leak. I remember the days games had RAM leaks but RAM is cheap and upgrade-able. VRAM isn't...It needs to be optimized
Nothing made much of a difference until I got to the livery quality. It didn't change much but it did improve from 20fps to 29-30fps. I then turned drivatar liveries off, and I am now getting 60fps after running one race, but testing is pretty difficult, as I am also now encountering a bug where the post race screen never loads, and I have a pitch black screen that doesn't go away until I quit the application.
Don't know if this is related. or an all new error. But I sure do know it's frustrating.
I sure wish I could break my money after the fact like they have this game.
Out of frustration i set everything back to default, and it started working (quasi) normally.
I went through and changed some of the settings back to where I had them to see which one was causing the issue, got to the performance target and setting it to 30 or 60 caused no issues (still worked), however setting it to unlocked caused the black screen to reappear.
Dlss turned on with the fps locked to 60 also got me the black screen.
resolution scale at less than 100 got me the black screen, but above 100 caused stutters.
turning on drivatar liveries at all resulted in 20fps after the first race again.
I found settings that work and look good but they don't make sense.
I currently have dlss on quality, performance target to 60, ray tracing to full, rt quality to medium, everything else to ultra or high- and it somehow works now without stuttering at a steady 60fps.
There is something seriously bugged in the code of this game. aside from dlss being on quality, every setting is currently the same of higher than where I had it to start with.
I'm just glad it's working for now.
The M.2 that it's on is not compressed.
and yes the infinite black screen (not sure if it qualifies as a "loading" screen, as I wasn't even getting "the circle of endless entertainment" in the corner- just went to black, and that's it)
Sometimes I would have trouble in that screen before update 5 and the game would say "updating" an estimate of how many laps you might get. Now it won't let me out of the screen if it says "updating".
I disabled drivatar liveries, but I noticed that sometimes the setting won't stay off and sometimes it loads their liveries while driving, which is highly annoying.
I think the few stutter I still get are being caused by poor cpu optimization. Loading into the first race I run after starting the game, about 15-20 seconds in, I will get a dip from 60 to 48fps for about a half a second, after which it recovers and never happens again (until I restart the game).
I turned down raytracing not so much because of performance, but because I couldn't really tell the difference between medium and ultra. It might be my screen, or my eyesight, but to me high and medium look identical, and ultra looks the same, but with the occasional stutter- so I just turned it to the lowest setting that still looked good to my eyes.
I don't generally run raytracing in games, but if I turn it off in Forza, I start getting the "infinite loading screen" after freeplay races, and about 30% of the time in career mode. I have no idea why this has an effect, because to me, this should be the opposite of helpful- but I haven't had a soft lock since turning on RT.
Next update will likely screw with everything all over again, looking forward to messing with settings for a week to make the game function again lol.
When I try to do it in game, (disabled in NVIDIA when I try this), i start getting some stutters in the benchmark (30-40, not horrible, mostly unnoticeable, but they are there).
No difference in behavior if I use 60fps or 60 Vsync- still get the odd stutter during the benchmark. If I do the FPS limit and Vsync through NVIDIA I don't get stuttering during gameplay or during the benchmark- but will get the odd stutter in the menus (something that doesn't happen with the vsync/ fps limit done in game)
I went with the NVIDIA option because I don't need any help sucking at driving lol.
