Not only this but they also have some random pace. They can gain like 20 seconds when they are behind. And can also loose 20 seconds if you are behind them. Endurance races with AI is a joke.

I noticed this yesterday when I increased the AI ​​difficulty, they ran infinitely with the same performance, only stopping in the pits because there must be mandatory programming, otherwise they would finish in front.
Also, here's a tip: don't leave the AI ​​difficulty at maximum in endurance events, leave it at 4 or 5 at most if you want something challenging.

I noticed they tend to stop in the pits as they have medium tires, but I see no decrease in their performance. In fact once I run my rear tires to the ground in the Showcase race, and they were very much closing in as nothing was wrong with theirs, meanwhile I was struggling, and we ended changing tires in same lap.You can see in the start of the race how much fuel they are supposed to have, but they run out of tires first, and refuel in the same stop.
For difficult 4-5 I just start with Hard tires and then switch to medium . Except in one race that has rain…
