Though despite being faster the AI still brakes in some stupid spots and completely disregards your presence on the track -_-
I`ve seen AI all of the sudden out of nowhere closing in very fast on straights overtaking me and they are gone. They didn`t had this much speed the last 3 laps but for no good reason they have this insane performance boost momentarily.
Pretty sure it isn`t slipstream it is a very significant jump in performance and speed.
Also certain 2nd place gets a big push in overall lap speed for the last lap. They drive the last few corners insanely fast out of nowhere creating these artifical close finishes.
And then there is also often a leading pack which in some races you have basically no hope in catching up to.
you can test it by running the Taycan (E tron, or any other top speed limited car) on an oval, and watching the replay. On Lvl 8, the "chosen one" will be running 5-7mph faster than the highest possible top speed of the car up until the last lap.
I guess I should throw out a spoiler alert here, because watching the telemetry of the opponent AI during replays will shatter any illusion of realism in the game, They regularly pull in excess of 2g's on stock tires, brake in distances not possible on this planet, and summon horsepower out of thin air.
Much like every other part of the game, the AI are a cheap, lazy interpretation of what was promised prior to launch.
