It is but I have found it difficult. Much easier with my wheel.
+1
Funny thing is, I've never played AC on a controller and I have yet to play Forza on my steering wheel. While everyone is spending tens of thousands of dollars, as you say (I'd rather just drive a real car), for the most realistic experience; there is something to be said for pickup and play fun that is not pure arcade.
I don’t doubt what you say. Here’s the deal though, I play Forza in ten or thirty minute spurts. If I know I’ll be able to have a longer session, uninterrupted, I can setup my HOTAS faster than my wheel. And I’d rather fly than drive. Streetcars > than race cars. However airplanes > cars.
Quality and content of Forza Motorsport aside, yeah I always find these "recommendations" a bit stupid.
There are basically two simcades which work out of the box and play well with a joypad. Forza and Gran Turismo.
Everything else is something else. Too much sim focus, too arcady, too many mods necessary, too focused and narrow what the game offers and does (only LMP, GT)
