in depth tuning guide?
hello peeps.
i have been struggling with tuning in this game. sometimes i download a tune, wich perfectly matches my driving style, but whhen i try to replicate it, it just always fails.
so my question to all of you:

is there a guide out there that explains what certain settings influence what part of the car?

like going into a turn, and the car feeling like a slug, etc.

i know there is explanation in game, and i have seen YT videos, but non of them really explain it clearly for me..

for instance: i get a lot of understeer in turns with a random car.... do i adjust tire pressure? springs? do i fiddle with the anti roll bars? give it more/less aero ( i do have this one figured out, but sometimes i just need to max out dowforce and the car is still not turning in enough)

what im pretty much asking is: is there a YT video or guide out there that shows you a car taking a corner, and for example getting understeer, where they explain what you can do to counter it?

thanks in advance!

Sorry, can’t point to any easy guides. But one piece of advice I’ll give is to learn how to drive around problems. You can tune away a car’s greatest strength just because you don’t know how to drive it properly.

Learn how to influence the traction circle as needed. Build the car to maximize the traction circle. Tune to shape the traction circle as needed.

Just download the tunes and look at them then try something yourself.

YouTube. "How to Tune In Forza Motorsport" by HokiHoshi
Pretty good beginners guide.
He tells you what a good base tune is. And the pros and cons of settings.
And from there you can adjust based on how the car feels.

to me sounds like FM Settings issue, not so much like tuning issue. In Settings check that BRAKING is not FULLY or PARTIALLY assisted. Any corner taking, circles, and so on will be slower than usual (when assisted). Especially true if any corner-taking is just slow, but you rarely fail making it (the car doesn't end up out of bounds). Like you said, proceed to some tuning guide if Settings are OK.

i have tryed that one, and it doesnt worrk. all it does is give you a basic setup that in some cases is worse than the stock setup the car come with when you buy it.

anyway, thank you peeps for the answers so far!

Familiarize yourself with each part so it will be easier to identify the problem.

The general idea is to balance the car towards oversteer without making it oversteery. In general, you either want to make the front softer or the rear stiffer, or sometimes both.

The best way to learn a car's limits is to introduce changes toward oversteer in small increments. Keep doing so until the car feels too loose, go back to the previous best metric, move to another setting.

It's easier said than done and it isn't always clear what part needs addressing but with time you'll get the hang of it.

BTW Forzatune sucks.

you, my friiend, gave me the thhiing i was askingg for. i know that changing caster can iimprove corner speed, but after watching these video's i now know where to look to apply some more changes, even iif they are just slight, to get a good iimprovement on the car handeling...

thanks you so much!

You only need this. There is also a free version

I also recommend the ForzaTune app. Makes it very easy to tune, and you can ask the app to make your car have more/less over/understeer, and then see what changes to do to achieve this. Thus you learn how to do it yourself if you want.

ForzaTune just balances the suspension to the weight distribution of the car. Fine tuning and a basic understanding is still necessary.

I’d like to point out that while everyone is talking about tuning, basic chassis balance is a very powerful tool. Throwing on wider tires front or rear can solve many a handling Ill. Pay attention to the actual numbers, though. The next step up for the rear tire might make them 40mm wider while the front only gets 20mm for the same step, making the car understeer. You might need two steps front and one rear, for example.

That's not all it does. It saves me a lot of time by adjusting the gearing per course for instance. You can all use sliders for overall balance (oversteer/understeer), turn entry balance, turn exit balance, ride stiffness, and roll stiffness. And it has written text to tell you how to tune it further.
