It seems to me that there is a small problem if you stop right in front of the opponent, leaving him no room to overtake. In this case, I noticed that the enemy can blunt and crash. But this does not interfere with racing. I also tried to stop on the trajectory in a straight line and on turns, and the opponents even went around me on the turn.
I did the same like in the video and they NEVER drove around me or braked to get slower. No they just rammed me with fullspeed.
AI 3/10 and that's being generous.
They brake check constantly.
They can't drive in group at ALL.
They sway and turn-in towards the player on straights like in an action movie when trying to overtake them.
They go out of the racing line just to block you and miss their braking flying off track
They miss corners completely (not even on the brakes) and take out 3-4 cars with them along the way.
The only way you think the AI is okay is when you are still learning the game.
Once you get to the point where you race them at 8/8 you will see how exceptionally poor they really are, even 1v1.

Some highlights:
1:25 -> Red car getting pushed off the racing line. Doesn't brake until in the grass
1:45 -> Orange car brake checks the AI in front me
2:15 -> Same car doesn't notice me, gets scared and runs wide in the grass
3:45 -> Blue Aston doing random brake checks. Runs wide. Game gives me penalty 1s.
6:25 -> Leaves the racing line when we are already parallel to squeeze me off track
8:30 -> Brutal brake check. I shoot wide to avoid him.
9:10 -> Again, leaves the racing line while we are already parallel to make contact and block me. Doesn't slow down enough to make the corner and completely overshoots it. I get a "Warning"
There are timestamps in the description to click it trough
You could be right that they are learning, because they definitely drive like "learner drivers"
T10 should give them a glowing "L" sign on the roof and slap a "Driving school" livery on all AI haha
~950ish
3:12 he didn't accelerate. You can see he catches up very fast to me after that.
Yea, they brake at the same wrong places even on max difficulty, which to me is a brake check. He is jumping on the brakes on a straight...
I am using a PS5 controller
And yea, AMD is very generous with the VRAM hahah
Thanks very much! I have a sim rig but it's folded away, because we don't have space for it currently, hah.
I agree, I am kinda nitpicking at the AI. Generally, it's okay-ish but I was expecting so much more from a game with "Motorsport" in the name. In the end the AI seems at the level of Horizon. They fly off the track, block and brake check just like that lol
Oh, yea, I really loved the NIO. I got through some of the featured career with it and it was a blast. Really changes the pace to use an electric car. I will follow your tips for setting up races to get the most out of the AI. Now around the holidays I will have a bit more time and I want to try some longer races. Maybe 1-2h endurance style.
I think there are some cars which aren't very competitive in their class without some basic upgrades and tuning. Either that or the AI is stronger in some cars and weaker in others.
Yes, in Freeplay there are some crazy races you can currate yourself with the AI. Makes me wonder why T10 are not setting up races like that for the Career. A lot of people will experience just the Career and get a feeling of extremely shallow racing. Shame really.
Control pad is a dream once you master it. You need a good pad as well. I've tested about 6-7 already from different brands incl. the official ones. Have to say the PS5 Dualsense is the best. No deadzones. Super precise. Can be overclocked to 1ms on PC and by using software like DualSenseX (it's on Steam) you can use some crazy features like progressive resistance for you brakes on the trigger. You can really feel when the brakes are about to lock up with ABS off.
But anyways. Don't want to get too much off-topic. The AI does feel okay and there are ways to make it perform better as you described. I just think T10 really need to work on it alongside the stability/optimization of the game. Hopefully they are prioritizing these things and not just the new content.
Yes, I've avoided so many penalties by backing of the throttle. Especially in corner cutting or going wide. If you don't let go of the throttle, the game thinks that it's intentional to gain advantage and gives you a penalty. I think the same applies to contacts as you are mentioning here. It's a good advice for both single and multiplayer.
