Some tips for performance in current game state.
Hi, I will try to help those who were suffering with performance as i was in the first days. Hope you all have the same luck as i did.

First things first:

- You really need a cpu with strong single thread performance to maintain 60fps at least.
- If you have a cpu with more then 6 physical cores and it has Hyper Threading/ Simultaneous multi threading, disable it for the game (Over bios, proccess lasso or anything you want to use. The game really doesnt know how to use it all besides loading in the current state.

- Enable resizable-bar on nvidia profile inspector if you have nvidia or SMA in AMD GPU (I just tested Nividia because i dont have access to a AMD powered GPU capable of the same performance or even to run the game at low). It will not increase performance, but will improve a little VRAM usage and stability.

- Update the driver, i dont know if amd already uploaded one. But the nvidia game ready driver improved a bit.

Now to the game settings:

First of all, if you are switching between configs and nothing changes, i recommend deleting the configuration file and start the game to generate it again, located at:

Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft.ForzaMotorsport\User_SteamLocalStorageDirectory\ConnectedStorage\ForzaUserConfigSelections\UserConfigSelections

MS Store:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ForzaMotorsport_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\User_GamingLocalStorageDirectory\ConnectedStorage\ForzaUserConfigSelections\UserConfigSelections

It solved a problem for me with the intro, the first audio was always crackling
PS: There you can find some configs that suggest support for nvidia frame generation, absent from the game currently.

Now for the real part, the main settings from my testings.

Track texture quality: Thats the BIGGEST impact on the game, its mislabeled as textures only, but it is related to LOD too, this seriously impact gpu and cpu performance, the most stressing test isnt even the benchmark for this, is the complete Suzuka Circuit, i was getting like 37 fps even on test drive. The difference from medium to high for me is almost 50% or more.

Shadow: Second on the list of impact besides obvious ray tracing. medium to high is a big impact in performance, but not nearly as track textures.

RTAO: If you have RT enabled, its a big impact too, but i could not notice any big difference between low to high, but i may be blind.

The rest of the settings is normal, just see if you want or not. I 've setted most at medium just because i dont want to keep changing setting by setting anymore and for VRAM limitations.

PS¹: Dynamic render quality works as DF stated. low = 720p, medium = 1080p, High = 2k, and ultra = 4k.
PS²: Every setting you change, make sure to restart the game, sometimes it can apply just by reloading the track, most times dont. So, make sure to restart it.
PS³: To DLSS/FSR work, you need to set resolution scale to auto.

And That's it from what i remember from my investigations yesterday. Hope it Helps at least somebody.

Here is the settings that i used to get 60fps on BM as an example:
https://imgur.com/a/8ePpZIE

I still prefer to use DLAA instead of DLSS Quality, because ingame i have not experienced any framedrops from 60 except for cutscenes that the bottleneck is the bad use of CPU.

Setup tested:
Legion 5i
CPU: i7 11800H
GPU: RTX 3060
RAM: 32GB

Really hope that the optimization comes something close to FH 4 and 5 and FM 7 that the only problem is the obligatory VSYNC for someones.

All BS.

Hum.

Not sure if there was just a patch a couple of minutes ago to an hour, but whe I launched my game after a break it needed to synchronize some data, the version number at the bottom left felt different to what I remember and now I do have the same issue that I had 36 hours ago before the Nvidia drivers... All jittery, frame oscillating between 70 and 40 despite asking to lock at 60 and... Not sure if my eyes are tricking me but it seems the draw distance is way worse than earlier today.

What happened ?

Dont know if you have a nvidia gpu, if you do, forza motorsport is available now on Geforce Experience, if you have that option enabled to "auto optimize games", it messed up with the configs
shadow82 Oct 11, 2023 @ 4:02pm
Could have been that, but I do not have the auto settings. After messing around again with settings and deleting the config file (that were stable since yesterday...), I got back to kind of 60 fps, but the draw distance still seem off despite being on high, it almost look like it is on low whatever I choose.

You are playing on MS Store right? Which game version is there?
On Steam, it continues with 1.488.4138.0. Maybe the update already is at MS store version, on steam, it is at internal branch, for now
shadow82 Oct 11, 2023 @ 4:13pm
Yeah MS Store, I also double/triple check in the mean time it is still the same version of the game. Also restarted everything and re-installed drivers. I feel I will give up for today, was happy to get it to run it well and looking good for a while, being back to where it was prior to Tuesday is annoying. Especially because I just took a 2 hour break and did nothing with my computer or the game in the meantime -_-

3900x/6900xt

I gained 30+fps turning off ray traced ambient occlusion. I left reflections on, now I get 80+fps at 4k fsr quality.

60? No, to maintain 60 you might need to not have a potato. The game isn't well optimized, but you don't need a high end cpu for 60 fps. My laptop's CPU is easily able to maintain around 120 fps. I would very much consider my cpu to be a cpu with strong single thread performance, but I wouldn't consider that to be true for a cpu with half the single thread performance of my CPU.

Does FSR actually give you much fps? DLSS and FSR...don't do much for me, at all. I get like 20%ish higher fps with DLSS Ultra Performance, than at native. It's...something, but in many other games that would more than double my fps.

Amazing wall of text, Here is what I did.... Buy a series X playing games on personal computers sucks. £500 60fps 4k no problems at all :steamsalty::steamsalty::steamsalty:

My laptop gets ~60 fps at native 4k, with RT on, and every setting maxed. Tell me more about how PC's suck. Also tell me more about thinking your console runs the game at 4K. It doesn't, it runs it at "Dynamic 4K", it's being upscaled.

Tbh I haven't tried with FSR off yet. There wasn't much difference between quality/balanced/performance except image quality was noticeably worse, so i just left it on quality.

But usually if it doesn't make much of a difference it means you're cpu bound. With this game who knows. Performance reports are all over the map. Some people with low hardware getting good results and some people with high end hardware and bad results. I know i wasn't happy with 40-50fps and that's when I turned off RTAO.
Nauzhror Oct 11, 2023 @ 8:09pm
https://i.imgur.com/97BS1Uc.png 58 fps, 4K Native, everything maxed (including RT)
Now same settings, but DLSS Quality: https://i.imgur.com/MWRNZNY.png

63 fps

Whopping 5 fps gained by going to DLSS Quality

Textures usually have next to no impact on performance, unless you run out of VRAM. The trick here is to try the various options and see where you get a big fps drop and then go back one. I don't get any fps change between the various levels of this setting because I have 16 GB VRAM.
Zinoviev Oct 11, 2023 @ 10:29pm
The track textures were one of the first things i tried to reduce stutter, but it did nothing for me no matter what it was set at. The game does run smoothly, but i get the occasional stutter on some tracks on some corners. I wouldn't mind it as much if the stutters happened on straight, but there has been a few times where i just go wide a corner because the game stuttered badly. I play mostly multiplayer so it can be a BIG time loss. Career has rewind so doesn't matter that much. But still.. annoying.

I have a i710700k CPU and i'm fighting hard to play at 60fps, REALLY HARD.
I'm having the same problem with another games, like spider man. In that case, the game updated and solve the problem.
I'ts a bug with hyper threading config.
My cpu don't get a 20% usage, isn't normal.

I7 10700k
RTX 2060 super

I'm playing F1 23 at 90-100 fps. The forza seems like bad optmized, and broken in some aspects, the render distance is so ugly and the textures is flicking all the time. The DLSS isn't improving at all, tipcal off a game optimized for AMD GPU, like starfield for exemple.

It's sad, you wait years to play a new forza motorsport and the game its just worst than motorsport 7.

So. For those of us who are suffering from this bug. CPUs that have great single thread will be able to run the game at 60 fps. Anyone who only has a CPU with decent multi-threading will cry until new updates come.

ps: i know that i have a weak gpu for my cpu, my feeling is based in other games with same recommendations.
ps²: xbox exclusive games always release like this, bc the games are optimized fot the consoles. PS exclusives also, god of war, spider man and the last os us too. Console games don't know to use multi-cores cpu.
