Can we agree Digital Foundry is not honest anymore?
How can they make performance specific reviews and cover little to nothing about the glaring issues this game has performance wise and graphics wise? Are the problems fixable? Probably down the line yes, but why are the people who pay full price punished and the casual who buys it for 10$ in 2 years gets the real experience? Why is it unreasonable to expect a $70+ product to work properly when purchased at launch? Why does a game developed by a studio with so much under its belt and infinite money to back it, come out broken every time? Finally, why does Digital Foundry downplay the issues so much as to make them seem like there are almost no real issues at all that a restart or some settings changing won't fix?

They beat it up pretty bad in their latest video.

Digital Foundry is pointing out the lie.

They talked abuot the down grades, which is fine. I mean the actual performance though. the tech review made it seem like the issues were minor, when they aren't at all for a lot of people hence the mixed review score. So maybe they got lucky and didn't experience that stuff, but I doubt it with how detailed the review is.

they tried to hide the fact and went soft on MS

Pretty much all media outlets and influencers were keeping silent for the past week while reddit, official forums and here was full with technical complaints.

its probably that positive reviews get way more views n stuff, if you criticize something all legit, and even word it nicely everyone will hate it. positive stuff always gets you way more views comments etc, it just makes more money. So thats probably why they didnt go to hard on it. I watched some more honest reviews and still wanted to try it as I have been playing since the first game ( altho they really fell of multiple cliffs after fm4) and its a lot worse than even the reviews saying its not great say it is.

never trust any of them. Use reviewer footage to pick it apart the best you can yourself and see if it's worth the risk to try out the gameplay. They do this for a living, they would rather be on developers good side to get more reviews than a consumer report for gamers.

Problem with this is that developers sometimes provide the footage that must be used in reviews, so it's cherry picked to not show performance issues like microstutters.

influencers love clicks. Therefore, there are videos of the game (before publication) (often a trailer is enough) to start the hypertrain with titles like: This will be the best racing game of all time.

In order to get even more clicks, there are videos upon publication where extra bugs are shown and people get upset (or at least pretend) about little things that no one cares about - such as close-ups of the grass with a magnifying glass. Sure, it doesn't look like a painting, but you can't see any of it when driving past at 200km/h anyway. Then a click title like “The worst racing game of all time”.

At the end, a few days later, there's a normal video with the title "I was completely wrong, the game is great."

I don't think that's a good thing, but I just ignore such clicker channels anyway, since I usually don't see any sensible impressions of the game anyway, just mock angry behavior.

EDIT: This isn't aimed at Digital Foundry, as I often find their videos informative.

They do tend to air a game out once it releases and it's not sponsored. When talking about preview builds there is most likely a soft NDA anyway.

Yeah we're seeing more embargos where they can't even go past certain points. It's really noticeable in games like Diablo IV where act 1 is over built, but also the only act we got early game trailers and game play demos of.

it's so annoying especially with the streamers these days. They'll act all excited and defend the pros & cons of a game, but then you hear them casually talking about said game 6 months later and they're like "yeah that game sucked from the start."

They can only review what they experience. Unfortunately thats the reality of it. They have blasted plenty of games in their tech reviews. On the other hand, I have noticed their content has been taking a steady decline and have been blasted for saying such.

The game is an absolute mixed bag accross the board.

Agree, they did a good job on stuff like jedi survivor, but for the same issues on DeadSpace they noticed the frame stuttering, pointed it out, but still acted like it wasnt a real issue beyond being there. Why tf does every game have stutter and compilation issues now? I understand they address this and I thank them for it, but they are waaaay to soft on these performance issues.

I watch basically zero pre-game content for game releases anymore so I'm always a bit confused as to what people are even complaining about. Game looks great, running better now that the Geforce drivers are out. I've been playing nothing but iRacing lately and this looks a million times better. Audio is significantly better than other racing games as well.

Game looks ok, nothing like its advertising of *in engine* footage. Lots of graphic issues such as no settings changing unless you restart, poor performance even on high end hardware, frame drops in key areas etc etc. I hope the graphic issues will be sorted out shortly, by seriously. The game needs to be FINISHED at launch. It's not a suggestion.
