Always online, even in single player!
I almost pre-ordered until I discovered this title will be an always online game, even in single player. Does this bother you? I think I'll wait to see how the servers hold up before purchasing.

Forza Motorsport Offline Play

Players who have fully installed Forza Motorsport can create their own single-player races in Free Play even if they aren't always connected online.

Free Play includes a comprehensive collection of cars, tracks, and options so you can customize the racing to your liking including time-of-day and weather conditions.

An online connection is required to save your progress in Free Play. This is because the car-building mechanic is a primary driver of the in-game economy for all of Forza Motorsport – to help us ensure the security and fairness of the game for everyone, we’ve opted to make progression server-based, which will require an online connection.

You also need to be connected online to access other parts of the game like the Builders Cup Career Mode, which is designed to evolve and expand overtime – we'll be regularly introducing new championships and events, as well as pulling in your friends’ Drivatars and cars to your single-player experience.

Does it bother me? Mildly. Unfortunately, it's the new normal for many games to tie your progress to their servers.

Many games that do this have periods of unreliability, and that is something we now have to anticipate and cope with. It's not fun, but it is the world we live in.

Fortunately, we still have some games that aren't like that, but they are getting long in the tooth...and it is nice to try new things out.

I assume their servers won't be too much of an issue, most of the time.

I was thinking about it just now, I'm disappointed

I don't like this thing.
I have The Crew 2, and it's not cool not being able to use the game when servers are down.
Xbox didn't do it well here.

Nope, that's not a good idea.

Talk about two extremes.

People aren't sheepish for understanding the limitations and not caring (as much as others), but at the same time, it isn't the smallest thing in the world.

That is an oversimplistic view. Servers have issues, servers go down. And you won't have access to your game. Not a hard concept. It is a problem for other games, this game will not be immune. But there is no guarantee it will constantly bad either.

The issue with Crew 2, is it so commonly d/c me AFTER an event, making me lose progress. This doesn't happen in the original, or motorfest, or other ubi games. The crew2 has cursed servers, and are a good example of what people are concerned can happen.

If they do anything like GT7 where you couldn't even play the game, it won't be good.

I don't think they'll do something that stupid and anti-consumer. FH5 is always online, but if in the case it fails to connect, progress is saved locally.

This dose SUCK for sure but there is no choice any more if you want to play a game.

Judging from there constant issues with Flight Sim and its tendency to kick people off line every time they patch it I would say we are in for a rough ride.

From what I read, you must be online for progress to work. I hope they do a fallback like Horizon, but I have a feeling that is not the case here due to how it was worded.

Though, I admit, I'm not sure where I read it to review again.

Apparently single player progress is also connected to server. No connection = no progress

No one is talking about the perm 2x base credit rate you earn from buying the big bundle. I find that funny. They need to protect those credits, I imagine.
