Wet tyres trash? Or what?

Can someone tell me what the point of a rain tire is? I mean:

In my career, without assists, I went to difficulty level 6 in Barcelona in torrential rain (because I don't have racing tires yet) with dry (factory) tires. All opponents went with rain tires. I went with street tires as they went with rain tires. I won the race.

I'd put that on the AI not that the wet tires are trash. I use the wet tires and they're actually good. But I can't say I've done a study to compare laptimes.

However, I do want to say that I would not blame the tires. I would just say the AI got spanked. For example, I'm currently letting the auto AI assists run the game for me and sometimes the auto AI thing eats all the AI for me at the builder's cup even though it doesn't know how to pass anything.

Ai can be bad.

Wet Tires are really just Summer tires you can buy in real life so a Street or Sport set would be comparable. If the race had dynamic weather, though, the Wet Tires would be more useful as you'd need to change from slicks to wets.
