Choose starting position. Really?
I dont get it. We have training and we have to do a good time on it, right? Then we are able to choose our starting position on grid? It doesn't make sense, it's like qualifying is worthless.

Youve answered your own question, its training, not qualifying. Pretty sure the intro even says ''its a good time to learn the track and get a feel for your cars handling'', and you can skip it as well.

You dont have to do a good time on it you can be as slow as you want it dosent really matter, you just get a bonus XP reward if youre fast enough for the extra requirement.

Do you ALWAYS get to choose your starting position for each race, or is there an actual qualify round used for this?

Im asking as someone who hasnt yet played the game.

always choose. and cannot get a starter position higher than 3rd, even if you do pole time on the training session (i know because i did it at least 10 times now).

Hmf, seems odd that races don't have an actual qualifying round, as an option you can choose, which will auto place you on the grid according to how you qualified.

Are you guys certain you're not missing something?

*update: nevermind, after researching I see that no qualifying is actually a feature of this franchise? wtf, seriously?

It’s an odd system but bear in mind this is only the case for single player. Online has practice and qualy where grid is determined by best laps

Crazy they didn't even make it an option for single player. Hopefully just an oversight that can be corrected.

Is to give the player the freedom to choose how he or she wants to play the game. It is a single player experience so I think is great. The problem is if I manage to set the best lap during pratice I can't choose to be the first in the Grid.

There is no qualifying in Career mode. At least not in the series I have done. It's Practice > Race.

it is not an oversight, this is by design. You are supposed to pick your own starting place. If you want to sort yourself based on your practice times, you can for the most part. As long as you don't mind starting no higher than third.

It's a stupid system. Why not allow us to choose between this care bear system and actual qualifying? T10 are really out of touch with what Motorsport is all about. Smh.
DeadJericho Oct 18, 2023 @ 2:11pm
its not qualifying. its called practice and can be skipped via the pause menu
it is kinda useless though when you know the track inside out (which you will quite quickly in career as they dont feature all the tracks)
You legit can use the practice as the qualifier, just check your position VS the AI at the end and gratz, you got your starting spot
Oelf Oct 18, 2023 @ 3:04pm
I like it, it is much better as starting from the end at every GT. A qualify would only create boring races if they are so short because you would start from front and finish there too.

It's a good way to grind out car levels. Not completely useless.

That's not true, both of you. You can't skip the 3 required laps.
