Fog and rain do the same. As one would expect, archers are weaker in night and bad weather (visibility).
There are spells that help with this, and some units are not as affected by the weather effects as others. Make sure to read the unit's ID card to see how weather affects them....if it does at all.
For archers, for example, you can see the radius of their firing range actually decrease as bad weather or night are affecting them. Using spells that negate the effects will make the radius circle normal again, for the duration of the spell.
Spells that negate weather and night can be the difference between winning a battle or defeat with high losses. In later stages of the game, you will battle enemies that are very strong in the night, fog, and rain. So spells that negate these or counter these are very helpful at that point.
Night/bad weather also slows some units, as you would expect. That's one of the great things about this game, is the way these negative modifiers actually affect your units or the enemy units you battle.
Feel free to ask more questions if this did not answer everything. There are some players that post here that are very helpful and know all about this game and can cover anything I may have missed.
Heavy soldiers and heavy cavalry are really slow under bad weather conditions and loose stamina really fast.
You are right. Heavy units do use more stamina and slow down in bad weather.
