It's easy for anyone, young or old, to tell the difference between polygonal people, cars and environments and real life. However, you can't fake vulgarity. I know of no one growing up who was influenced by movie or game violence to become violent. But, I know many who were influenced to talk and think foul. Even if you have no moral objections to vulgarity, it might just come down to a matter of taste. For me, I'd love to have a setting that allowed me to avoid sexually explicit material and/or foul language in games. In this day and age it's easily possible. Especially in games. Unreal Tournament had the option. Now if you had high profile actors, I could see how paying them extra money to record alternate lines could get a little more expensive. But, I think it could pay off. Fictional violence is not the same as vulgarity. It would be like someone presenting a great dish but it has one ingredient that ruins it for you. If the chef would make it without that one ingredient he would have a customer. Why limit the products ability to sell?
Thanks to the OP for the thread. It gave me a heads up about the vulgar elements in the game. I think I'll pass on this one. It looked like NFS Hot Pursuit but with weapons from Death Race.
I agree... fake violence is just that. Random vulgarity, like this game possesses, isn't even entertaining.
Most games have vulgarity in some respect, or something that will "offend" someone else.
Your trying to make out that this game has suddenly broke some mega social taboo into the gaming world.
The days of Super Mario have long gone.
LOL , i just looked what games you play , and your bothered about some vulgarity in a game that your "kid" might hear , get real.
Kids nowadays are cussing around me bigtime in the street, you really think its going to bother them in a game ? when i was a kid in the early 80s maybe , but now , nahhhh
I think stuff like "Darkness 2" verges on the satanic , yet if i dont like it , i dont play it.
Wow. Did you ever pull a bunch of stuff out my statements that weren't there. I'm not so much bothered about vulgarity as I was just looking for a good shoot em up racing game that I can play online with my "nephews" not my "kid". I have no children.... never claimed to.
Don't tell me what I'm trying to "make out" when you clearly don't have all the facts smart guy.
Looking up what games I own in order to gather evidence to support your statements about my somehow being silly for wanting to minimize the vulgarity that kids are exposed to? One can't help but wonder what lack of a life you must have to dig that deep to make an argument about children's exposure to vulgarity a case of "meh... they do it in the streets".
Sorry man but you really put the "ass" in "class". Oops I mean "bum" in "class".
And no... I'm not gonna look up the games you play in order to support that statement.... cause you know... its going to paint such an accurate picture about you and all...
I agree. The game wouldn't lose a single ounce of its fun factor if you could remove the swearing.
There is a difference between playing games that have vulgarity and wishing that it wasn't there. I've got plenty race games. But, one with a little vehicular combat that's not Blur would be nice to add to my collection. I think all the Simbin, NFS, Codemasters, etc. race games did fine without vulgarity. You don't expect it in an arcade style race/combat game. I don't want it in my race games and obviously, by the fact that all the successful race games don't have it, it's not wanted. And I wish it wasn't in any of my games. And I like the whole "well everybody does it" 12 year old attitude. You show your maturity in spades buddy. I don't hold this game to a higher standard than any other race game I have. And I have less patience with sexual perversion vs just plain cursing.
Very true! Thankfully though you can turn the voices off and just race in this one.
The way your grinding on about the swearing in the game YOU do make out its the only game that does it.
And ????? if kids swear enough in the streets what difference is it in a game ????
They dont give a damn in games anymore (better or worse) kids , they seen and heard it all.
(Im 48 btw, and while i dont agree with how the world is going, is a fact that cussing and violence is in every day life)
I wasnt trying to be smart, just showing my own opinion that i think your a bit of a hypocrit.
Each to their own but i dont see any difference between someones guts in a game being shown and the F word .
I looked up the games as evidence what a hypocrit IMO , hack n slash games yet your on your soapbox as to what kids should or shouldnt hear in a game.
Its a 12+ game, and if your telling me that most 12 year olds dont use F word , you need to get real.
IF the game had been NO age minimum THEN i may possible have backed you up.
I show actually how out of touch with the real world you and ol Red are to bother about soem swearing in a game, while your quite happy to play ones with guts spilling out.
I shall show my maturity now by totally ignoring you two, if you dont like the whole package of this game as probably 95% are ok with it , then there are plenty of other driving games out there.
Have fun.
PS:- Ive bought plenty of games myself with soemthing in them that i have found i didnt like , i either put up with it or moved on.
Grinding on..??.. Hardly..
I make out that this is the only game that does it..?? Even though you've looked at my list of games and you've seen that I clearly know that there are many other games that do... Please pull a quote of anything in this thread where I say or even suggest that this is the only game that does it.
Swearing might be a way of life for kids where you're from, but not where I'm from. You say this is the way the "WORLD" is. I say you've got some traveling to do before you act like an authority on that topic.
I'm a hypocrit because I play games with swearing in them and I don't condone it for children? Kind of an apples and oranges situation you're comparing. My folks would have done the same thing for me when I was a kid and I would thank them for their giving a darn.
I hate to be the one to point this out to, but you seem to be arguing with yourself more than you are with me. Most of your statements seem to be wild stabs in the dark aren't even correlating with my statements.
There's this little thing called reality... and you sir seem to be way out of touch with it.
This game does have needless vulgarity, in some cases. It adds to the charm for some people, offends others, and also on youtube, stating you do not like it, makes you feel like an adult if you are a kid.
However, you probably cant change artwork, nor change the bot names at the moment. and the Duke really has tame cursing if you want a driver saying things.
How old are your brothers/sisters kids?
Only have sisters, and they're all grown up.
My nephews are 10 and younger.
I just want as many people to be able to enjoy this good game. Chicken jokes and Ass joke, to me though, If the children get it... they are old enough, same with the silly bot names.
Have you been comfortable playing this game with them yet, with the Voice over disabled?
