Can't advance to next cup

I advanced from the Hazard Junkies Cup to Gas Guzzlers Cup and after a game restart it sent me back to HJ Cup, I am in first place there around 10 points ahead of 2nd place. Am I basically stuck?

Hi,
be sure that you select a new car; the one you have received when you won the tournament.
This is our mistake, we didn't declare that you have to use a new car to participate in the next tier so it can be little bit confusing first time.

Actually it say it, i guess many don't read the pop-up tho. But it's rather clear.
