So basically i lost half my stuff...
I bought 8k gems 2 months ago, and I have like $2k invested into this game, with many limited skins. I really hope they give me an equitable amount of value back, because i'd rather not have smite 2 at this point if i'm going to lose all my stuff.

Yea them only basically giving a coupon sucks. At this point just give me 50% of my gems spent and allow me to use it on anything in smite 2.

Anyone criticizing has 0 knowledge of how game development works, you do not require skins to play the game for 1. 2: you lot clearly did not listen, "Receive legacy gems in smite 2 equal to every single gem you have ever spent in smite 1" the direct quote from the stream. "Legacy gems can be used for 50% of most in-game purchases".

I honestly, don't see that lasting long because it makes no sense to run and maintaine two diff sets of the same game because it just more dev work

Exactly, it will likely go into maintenance mode shorty after Smite 2's official release. Servers will remain live but major updates will slow down and eventually stop. Eventually after a enough time has passed and players start to leave naturally from lack of major updates, it would not surprise me if they shut down smite 1 servers for good. They aren't going to want to split their playerbase at all. They would want people to move to Smite 2 asap.

Just stating what they have said themselves, not stating whether it will be a good or negative thing for the Smite brand as a whole or specifically towards the first one.
Though I suspect you are right with it going into maintenance mode, and personally dunno how splitting the playerbase would look like, I haven't for example played Smite in ages since it came out, so I am looking to get back in with Smite 2, so I am guessing it is very much for new and returning players rather than people that are heavily invested into Smite 1.

Just read the FAQ man: "Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of the price of most in-game purchases in SMITE 2 – so things like skins, Battle Passes, and events in SMITE 2 will be half-off until you spend all of your Legacy Gems." www.smite2.com/faqs/

Also its said in the announcement that we're not having transition for our progress or skins, but they "wanted to reward us" for all the money we spent, i imagined that these legacy gems could be used to buy anything, but noooo, they're only a 50% discount, you have to use real money to pay the rest. They could just tell us that we are going to lose EVERYTHING and this is it, instead of deluding the players with fake rewards.

"Need" being in your argument just shows you have no business even being in this conversation regardless of how much you have or haven't spent. At the end of the day I don't need to play smite and most likely wont going into the future. At the end of the day it's a hobby. Nothing in regards to video games is a need. It's the fact that we paid for a product, they are deliberately making the product worse (less support and splitting the player base, and don't even try to say "Well they said they'd continue supporting it." I don't care what they said, they have a track record of poor management when it comes to their older games. Hand of the gods, DKO, global agenda, tribes.) and giving us company scrib in return is ludicrous. Never mind the fact that for some reason you feel the need to defend this garbage monetization.

the game isn't gone and it's better than a slow death

This is industry standard between sequels though, right? Besides OW1/2.
Like, it's a 10 year old game, do you really expect your skins from 10 years ago to transfer over to a brand new game in the year of our lord, 2024? :FC5_Hurk:
I hope not they should do same as warzone did and start fresh so the try hard's can start playing all over again and experience fun again!!

"For every Gem that you’ve ever spent in SMITE 1 – free or purchased – you’ll receive a Legacy Gem in SMITE 2. Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of the price of most in-game purchases in SMITE 2 – so things like skins, Battle Passes, and events in SMITE 2 will be half-off until you spend all of your Legacy Gems."

From the official website regarding Smite 2.

Items will be discounted by 50% whilst legacy gems are available, the remaining cost will be covered by none-other than your wallet, because they just aren't capable of ensuring a smooth transition between SMITE & SMITE 2 for users, they have to take the piss out of them in the process.

I'm not that naive. What I do expect is a reasonable rate of currency refunding to make up for lost items as you transition between the two games.

Telling long-time fans and supporters, many of which that have financially supported you for the better part of a decade that they're expected to pay at least half of the price on SMITE 2's items as legacy gems won't cover the cost, is bogus no matter how anyone tries to slice it.

I don't regret spending money on SMITE from Season 2 onwards, I love the game. They're absolutely barmy if they think I'll be getting into SMITE 2 though, especially at this conversion rate.

Didnt they say that you get gems equal to all the gems you have EVER purchased in smite throughout its years? You'll just have to respend them on new ♥♥♥♥ i guess.
You can only use those old gems up to 50% of the skin price, so you have to use 50% paid gems and 50% old gems. So basically its just a discount on skins.

Wow what a rip off. Hopefully they rethink that and change it to 100% or at least 80-90%.

What a way to punish all your diehard players that supported the original game.

Devs rely on sunk cost fallacy to keep people playing their game. Now it's backfiring on them. It's great.

If you're willing to spend 2k on a free game that's your own poor decision making.
100%

"But my poor financial decision was made on a 10 year old game, surely it is the dev's fault."

You could say he's a whale sucker but you think Hi-Rez would be most interested in keeping him engaged instead of disenfranchising him with this legacy gem garbage.
