If you're between 50 fps and 60 fps...
Hi,

Incredibly, I didn't know about this trick until today.

Most of us understand that your frame rate has to match the refresh rate of your monitor. If the two don't match, then you get stutter.

I'm gaming at 2560x1080 on a 60hz monitor. I have two GTX 980s. Because my monitor refreshes at 60hz I get tons of stutter in this game whenever I dip below 60 fps. (I'm hovering between 50 and 60 most times)

The simple trick... and I can't believe I hadn't realized this... is to create a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel, and set the refresh rate to 50hz.

I'm now gaming, in Watch Dogs, at 2560x1080 at a refresh rate of 50hz. The stutter is now gone.

I'm giving up 10 frames per second (at times), but honestly I can hardly tell the difference between 60hz and 50hz. For experimentation purposes, I dropped my hz all the way down to 40 - and that was noticeable.

So there you have it. If you're hovering between 50 and 60 fps, then you should drop your monitor's frequency down to 50. I can't believe I hadn't realized this earlier.

So I have the Nvidia Inspector, but I cannot find where to limit the frames. Where or what are you looking at in the program Nvidia Inspector?

Look in your Watch Dogs profile.

You'll see Frame Rate Limiter under the Common section (4th one down).

where do I find the watchdogs profile?

um ok Im sorry but I should have waited and built my computer this year instead of 2012. The fact is if you look at the clock speeds on the titan and the 780 side by side you will notice that the 780 is by far a faster video card. When I decide to upgrade my 3960x cpu and video card it will for sure be a faster card than the titan. Im not interested in vram 4gb is more than enough for high end gaming for the next 10 years. Just saying.

you missed the point.

Most monitors have a refresh rate of 60Hz, and you can force-set 50, 30 or 25Hz.

How do you force set 40Hz?

If your framerate matches your Hz, you get smooth gameplay. If it doesn't, you don't. Framerate above Hz actually makes no difference.

This is a "trick" you can use for any game, but why would you?

But then again, I was hovering between 40 and 60 fps for this game, so 50fps should definitely be better. But I'm just immune to the screen tear anyways.

Also, I play with Adaptive Vsync. So even when my framerate is fluctuating slightly, the gameplay isn't affected with lag spikes.

I'm playing right now with theworse mod, every setting fully maxed, smooth, because of this stupid horrible titan :( I'm even playing in borderless while replying here on my ohter monitor and it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ runnign great, stupid hate it stupid titan >.< it even runs smooth when I'm running a 2nd game in this monitor HATE IT UGH >:O
