Might & Magic VI

What to do next?
I'm level 46 and enjoyintgthe game, but I would like to ask some questions?

- What do Banks do? It seems like there only purpose is to make it harder to buy something. Is there any reason to use them?

- Any reason to keep quest items like scrolls after finishing the quest? I got dragon tower keys back from the Seer, but I'm not sure I still need them after I finished the quests.

- My Cleric has mastered light, which is great. But there seems to be little reason to master Spirit, Mind, or Body now. Body will help healing a bit. But Day of the Gods is soooo good it seems like a waste. She's already mastered Bow, Mace, Chain, Meditation, Body Building, and Learning. Is it worth it to master dagger too? I might just master shield. Not sure if It would be in character for a Saintly Cleric to succumb to mastering Dark.

- Any reason to Master 2 weapons? There doesn't seem like much point in putting in points past the initial 8, 10, or 12 accept for a little damage. Can I open all the traps with a 7 master disarm?

Still doing council quests and I've done all the promotion quests. I mastered Water for easy travel a while ago.

When do I find ancient weapons?

Anyway, Just curious! Thanks!

MM7 and 8 are great games, among the ten best ever, IMO. I had some trouble on current OS with the cut scenes working properly. I also had trouble with them running at all sometimes or not running full screen. Still, they are good enough so it is worth a little money just for a chance you will be able to get them working.

I wish Steam had them and made certain they will install properly and run on current OS. I would buy them again just for the convenience of that guarantee.

I find it very odd that games are not available in your area. I can think of no political or economic reason for that. Regarding explicit sexual stuff, Dragon Age Origins is pretty tame, G or PG rated. Kingdoms of Amalur has beautiful women (and men, I guess) but there is absolutly no touching or interaction other than the business of the game.

I know with KoA the developers went bandrupt and got embroiled in some sort of legal dispute... probably because the value of the game was not recognized quickly enough (like Wizardry 8). There is no development team around to translate it to other languages but for ones it already has I would assume you could purchase it anywhere... guess not. I have no idea why that would be.

The exact wording for KoA is "currently unavailable in your region", so it might become available once a large publisher purchases the rights. Most Bioware games aren't available either, but I thought that was because they had an exclusive arrangement with Origin. I can find them on that website. I have a lot of those games on Disc. I'm still hoping that in time it might trickle in, or possibly that I could trade for it on Black Friday. :)

I do know that the legal dispute involving KoA has been settled recently, The details were interesting if you like that stuff. https://www.polygon.com/2016/9/22/13024184/38-studios-curt-schilling-settlement-rhode-island

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Still playing, but I'm curious about what all the negative conditions do. I always have "Day of the Gods" and some other buffs, so it's difficult to check.

Weakness seems fairly common and looks okay, but hurts a lot.
Disease and poison look really bad, so I cure those quickly.
Insanity looks bad and kills you in some games, but it leaves you weak after you cure it so I might try to avoid curing it in combat.
Recently, my guys are becoming afraid.

Someone said that weakness halves your melee damage iirc, which is useful knowledge - thanks! What do the other condions do? Which should be cured right away?
Pretty sure I know what Death, Eradicated and Stone do...:)

Thanks!

Actually, you can live with pretty much any conditions, aside of Death, Eradication, Paralysis, etc.

I might be mistaken here, but here's what I know:

  • Weak - decreases rate of recovery, which means you attack less often. I don't know about melee damage, but that's possible too.
  • Poisoned, Diseased - decrease stats, also prevent from complete healing when resting. Should be treated asap. Poison can be cured with purple potion, Disease - with Restoration potion (Green + Purple). Or spells, of course.
  • Drunk - decrease one stats and increase other stats (not sure which). It's not that bad and you can live with that. Rest or take room in tavern to cure this condition. Or go to the church.
  • Afraid - decrease intellect and increase might. Not that bad and you can live with that. Rest or take room in tavern to cure this condition. Or go to the church.
  • Insane - strongly decrease intellect and personality and strongly increase might. This condition is actually the best, it'll help you to obliterate your enemies, especially if character with axe is insane (damage inflicted will be increased greatly!). But insane character is not restoring its SPs while resting (not so bad for Knight), and most probably will die if you'll rest until dawn.
  • Cursed - not sure about stats, but this condition will prevent your character from casting (spells will fail pretty often, even easy ones like Wizard's Eye or Torch Light), so this condition should be treated asap.

Welp, that's it.

That's a big help - Thanks!

- I thought that drunk or cursed affected my accuracy, but probblyI was just missing a lot at the time. Just felt that way.
I like that some cures that work in Real Life work in the game too, like resting when you are drunk or weak.

Cheers!

Nice writeup by Baleful. The key is observation. For the items that impact your stats, you can look at exactly what they are doing, even during a battle, by going to the character screen. That is the beauty of a turn-based game. Time is stopped unless you do something. You do not need to guess about buffs, for example, like Day of the Gods and Day of Protection. This works for negative conditions that impact your stats as well. You merely need to look at the stats and see exactly what they are doing, which, in my observation for the case of spells, is exactly what the spell descriptions said they would do.

Some, like Cursed are not as easy to observe but my observations concur with yours. The spell success rate drops to 50% and the hit rate is noticably and drastically less, but sometimes, fighting certain Harpies, for example, it is tough to fix during the battle. At least the amount of damage from physical melee and range attacks, when they do hit, does not appear to be decreased (by the Cursed condition). Curing cursed during battle is possible but the uncurse has only a 50% chance of success and if the creatures that curse you are still alive... it can be frustrating.

Love seeing so many people still playing this :D Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm stuck and didn't seem worth starting a new one for. I just came back to mm6 for the first time in years and the travel schedule I'm finding online everywhere seems to be wrong or I'm having glitch issues. I'm trying to get to the eel infested waters south island which the schedules show a boat going to from the north island on Thursday. I go to the dock though and get "come back another day" Anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

There is an excellent faq on thespoiler.com for MM6

It has all the overland maps and travel times listed beneath them. Also other good stuff like monster stats. I use it all the time.

I used a Google Search
http://www.the-spoiler.com/RPG/New.World.Computing/might.and.magic6.3/mm6.htm#bs
That will get you there.
Good Luck!

More subtle is the fact that there are hidden game requirements before you can travel to the eel infested waters. Certain quests must be completed. The maps and schedules show you where the ships to the area will show up and what day of the week. If you do not get the ship to there on that day then you have not completed enough. Nothing is broken.

This must be the issue cause I can get to the north island by boat, but can't take the boat to the south island for my promotion quest. I would normally do it later, so I guess there's something else I need to do first.

New Topic:

Lots of MoM games are on sale on Gog. I'm definitely thinking of doing some of them next!

Sorry, Degnr8, missed your reply from a few days ago. When you were talking about North Island I (not recalling details in the game) thought you were talking about the Silver Cove region where there are two spots ships embark from (one of which goes to the Eel region on a certain day when certain quests are complete). As for the Eel infested islands, once you get to the area you are there. Water walking or flying take it from there. As far as I know there is only one place in that region with the Eels where the boat goes. From there fly around and clear the entire region when you are ready to do so..

Yeah, I thought I remembered walking or flying before but the travel schedule was indicating a boat from one island to the other. Guess I'll use the save/reload spell and check it out

I would stick a Lloyd's Beacon there if you have a spare as it's kind of a pain to get to. Also, there are some nice fountains.
