Daikatana

How long is it?
I know, it's an annoying question. But I'm just looking for games which would be fine for blind races. So I'd like to know. And yes, I know it's pretty bad.

-- EDIT --
Oh, and I'm asking here, cause I don't really believe that the time on Howlongtobeat is valid.

Long. I've played Daikatana several times through in all difficulty levels and if I'd have to give some estimate I'd say that for an average player the first play through time is somewhere between 20 and 30 hours (or more) for the single-player campaign on normal difficulty.

If you guys are expert players... I've never tried to complete the Daikatana in a single day, but I know that it takes between ~5-6 hours to reach end of episode 1 in hard difficulty, and based on that I might be able to complete the game in more or less in 20 hours in hard difficulty.

That's the most accurate reply I can give you. Your question is not annoying. It's just a very difficult one to answer to. Daikatana is a long game and in my opinion not suitable for blind racing. Instead do blind race in Doom, Quake, Heretic, or Hexen which are more suitable games for such a competition.

Daikatana's best when you take a few beers, relax, and take it slow from start to end. Rushing it through results players dying in a fashion that will feel unfair for them. Most likely outcome for a "blind run" is that both players will droup out before the game ends. There are also just too many factors that dictate how the blind race would play out making it very difficult to judge.

There are several good reasons why Daikatana is not suitable for blind racing. It has maze-like levels, with both hidden switch puzzles and hidden door key puzzles. Also the companion bots, the infamous "sidekicks", are a thing on their own.

Granted that you guys could set up two Co-Op servers where you can play the game through without the cutscenes or bots and that makes cuts the length of the game at least few hours but there might be issues with the puzzles that require two players, which leads to that players should be allowed to use noclip to bypass those portions of the game.

I've also played Daikatana enough to know that it isn't actually a bad game. It has its issues but to be fair it's a mediocre 7/10 or 8/10 twitch shooter. And many times of more enjoyable than let's say Call of Duty in my honest opinion. The single largest problem is the lack of polish.

Thanks for putting so much effort into response. Appreciate that. I guess, I'll add Heretic and Hexen to the list. It's better to start up short and then go for longer and longer games, than another way around. That's why, I was asking, cause the time at Howlongtobeat is like 2,5hrs, which seemed impossible to me.

No problem... And yeah, that time estimate is definitely wrong. Even if you use cheats it would be impossible to run all the levels to 2~3 hours. Daikatana has boatloads of content. It introduces constantly something new to players and it's almost impossible to get bored of something.

The infamous mosquitoes and frogs only appear at the first few levels of the first episode (one level consists of three maps on average). That's more or less an hour of the game that's easily 25 hours long for most people on normal difficulty. Mosquitoes don't even deal any significant damage, they're there just to distract player from more serious threats.
