I take it you've started on easy - nothing wrong with that - you get a seed to commence with, so grow it.
Later on in the game you will be able to build a trading post and barter for goods including seeds. There are 8 vegetable seeds and 8 fruit seeds.
Enjoy.
Most seeds cost 2500 trade, some will cost around 3200. Some items are worth more in trade than others. Example: All crops are worth 1 trade each; Warm Coats are worth 20 trade each; Ale is worth 8 trade each, Steel Tools are worth 10 trade each.
Not all traders take food, so it's best to keep iron, stone and firewood stocked enough to buy 3200 trade items. Firewood is worth 4 trade each, Iron worth 5, stone is worth 7, and coal is worth 6.
It adds Iron in groups of 20 by default units so would that = 100 value? (assuming the trader wants iron)
I'm stocking up for the Trader because I have just peppers and plums and no livestock. Need dat cabbage or wheat.
Yes 1 unit of iron is worth 5 "trade" points. The traders typically take iron, coal, stone, firewood, logs (not worth it, since firewood is worth so much more), tools, coats, and occasionally leather.
Livestock costs the following:
Chicken: 400 each
Sheep: 600 each
Cows: 800 each
Produced goods are usually worth the most (e.g. clothes & tools) the higher "quality" the item the more it's worth (e.g. A leather coat is worth less than a warm coat or a wool coat, and an iron tool is worth less than a steel tool)
