Hills and water everywere!
These hills are really bad. You can not do anything with them and they are always in the way.
Since the groound has to be compleatly flat inorder to place anything (but mines) and those are really hard to place on the side of the hill. IT is almost as if the map maker and the building maker did not even talk about it and just assumed that the other understood what they were doing.

If you try to place a field and just (1 sqair) out of a 20x20 is red. you can not place it.
It would be great if you could place things on hills or the people could smash the little hills. Or trees could grow on top of them and they could be cut down and used.

Then there is the water that takes up much of the map. In between the two it is hard to place alot of building without spreading them out and they do not work well that way. Having the people run all ovet the place to do some work only to stop soon and run back to town becouse they are hungry or need herbs. Which brings me to another problem. The people will run back for herbs even if they are none to be had. Or carrying things that they don't need like food when collecting iron.

Or clearing an area for a building and instead of just leaving the building matereal there. Bring it back to a stock pile. Only to have someone else take it right back and add it to the building. Now that is a compleate waist of time.

If there were more ways to use the water such as a water mill or jetties to move peple about or longer rainged fishing in those large lakes in the game. Or just to use is for drinking, cleaning and bathing.
But the only 2 things I see is river trade and limited fishing. Atleast there are briges to get accross.

Perhaps a military to profide protection from outside threats and more traiders in ships that looked more like traders and not some little fishing boat.

I could go on and on.....

In short, this game has a good start but has a long way to go.

yep even when you pick larger maps you just get more hills and water and not larger spanses of flat ground

You can change the map if you don't like the one you got.

1) I would like to be able to have some of my people be able to level areas (like real world) like small ridges or knolls to lay a road/walkway across. I have been able to flaten a section oh low ridge by plotting a house and then removing it before any supplies are added but the little red squares still show up (preventing build) blocking the path (even though the section is now flat).
2) I would like to see a way to remove a priority from an area/building/structure, that was put there by accident or on purpose.
3) There should be a way to grab a few workers and direct them to a specific task. As it is the AI does not have the inteligence/programing to know in what priority build items should be placed. This would require a little micro managing on the players part as stated above.

Yea there is a flatten tool mod but frankly it's overpowered. If somebody was to grab this tool and balance it, well...
Hills can be a pain... especially the really small ones you didn't even notice at first. Also since hills are just pointless as they have no use.

My advice is to generate the map few times and choosing one that you prefer. It might take couple of minutes to get one that you like, but it's probably than smacking your head on the screen as you get frustrated with the really challenging map.
Second thing is just to learn to live with some of those hills. For example there is small about 5x5 hill in your farmlands? well just make couple of smaller farms and place some barns in the extra land.

I do agree that there needs to be a "landscaping" tool. But I also think that the hills add a bit of challenge to the game. I'd say if the "landscaping" tool were to be redone, make it to where the Laborers could only flatten small hills, and not mountains.

Well I would counter that the aim of the game is survival, building a community despite the difficulty that the land you find yourself in presents you.

Out of the box this is precisely what Banished does. And to say that it does it pretty well despite being a lone developer is amazing in these days when big studios are having to push out patches as early as release day to correct issues.

However since Modding has been added the game is opening out, there are Water Mills available (to use your example). And as mentioned above you can get more forgiving farm fields. If you have an idea it can be added to the game via mods.

Maybe a Landscaping tool would be useful to create the perfect map, although that sort of removes the challenge aspect to a degree.

As to military, no, just no. We have city builders with conflict games coming out of the Wazoo. Personally I applaud the developer for resisting this and providing a good, single player, town building game.

This game is pretty much complete in my opinion. Besides more tweaks to the core AI, nothing more can be added that can't be done with mods.

I'd rather they make a new game then mess around with this one. Take the lessons learned and apply it to a new project. Better than forcing stuff in something not designed with it in mind.

There is a priority button if you want something built before anything else.

As others are saying, the whole premise of Banished was to survive and grow in limited space. The original design and gameplay was *intended* to be that way.

Populations of 1000+ were HARD in the original build and only a few were capable. It was solid strategy and is the reason why building options were limited and restrictive building was in place.

SInce it's been watered down, it's more like a sim with strategy elements but if people play it like a dedicated build sim, then yes, hills etc. are going to be in the way and no, the AI won't perform like you want them to.

Working as intended.

Mods?

My current map I recently started has mountains and rivers and streams and lakes just about anywhere you go.

Soooo much fun trying to sqeeze as much as I can out of every little space. My food resources are dwindling! My people are cold! I don't even have a trading post, town hall or chapel yet, this is great.

Not as much fun as complaining.
