2) I would like to see a way to remove a priority from an area/building/structure, that was put there by accident or on purpose.
3) There should be a way to grab a few workers and direct them to a specific task. As it is the AI does not have the inteligence/programing to know in what priority build items should be placed. This would require a little micro managing on the players part as stated above.
My advice is to generate the map few times and choosing one that you prefer. It might take couple of minutes to get one that you like, but it's probably than smacking your head on the screen as you get frustrated with the really challenging map.
Second thing is just to learn to live with some of those hills. For example there is small about 5x5 hill in your farmlands? well just make couple of smaller farms and place some barns in the extra land.
Well I would counter that the aim of the game is survival, building a community despite the difficulty that the land you find yourself in presents you.
Out of the box this is precisely what Banished does. And to say that it does it pretty well despite being a lone developer is amazing in these days when big studios are having to push out patches as early as release day to correct issues.
However since Modding has been added the game is opening out, there are Water Mills available (to use your example). And as mentioned above you can get more forgiving farm fields. If you have an idea it can be added to the game via mods.
Maybe a Landscaping tool would be useful to create the perfect map, although that sort of removes the challenge aspect to a degree.
As to military, no, just no. We have city builders with conflict games coming out of the Wazoo. Personally I applaud the developer for resisting this and providing a good, single player, town building game.
I'd rather they make a new game then mess around with this one. Take the lessons learned and apply it to a new project. Better than forcing stuff in something not designed with it in mind.
Populations of 1000+ were HARD in the original build and only a few were capable. It was solid strategy and is the reason why building options were limited and restrictive building was in place.
SInce it's been watered down, it's more like a sim with strategy elements but if people play it like a dedicated build sim, then yes, hills etc. are going to be in the way and no, the AI won't perform like you want them to.
Working as intended.
Mods?
Soooo much fun trying to sqeeze as much as I can out of every little space. My food resources are dwindling! My people are cold! I don't even have a trading post, town hall or chapel yet, this is great.
Not as much fun as complaining.
Way to go!
Mountainous, hard, harsh, etc., small, or if you feel like really spoiling you peeps, then medium.
Those mountain people don't fuss much with edjumakation.
