A way to turn off coal as fuel?

In the town I'm working on now, I've tried going steel for my tools a few times. I always ended up with tool shortages but didn't know why. It seemed like my blacksmiths weren't making anything. So I built two full-time mines producing iron and coal in each one.
Then when I clicked on a random house while the coal mine was running, I noticed that house had coal in it instead of firewood. And not just that house. Several other houses were taking coal from the stockpile and market to use as fuel. No wonder my blacksmiths kept running out of materials.

So is there a way to turn off coal as fuel? Or do I have to build this coal mine super far away from town?

yes don't mine coal.LOL There is no way to turn off coal as fuel. Just mine more with that in mind your fire woood demand goes down.

From what I have heard, firewood is a priority fuel for houses. Just make sure you have enough.

Really annoying that houses hog the coal I want to use on tools. Even with 1500 firewood stored all over the place they still use coal. Checking houses they usually have both.

I'm surprised they'd use coal. Isn't that technically a little dangerous?

Build a barn next to the coal mine. If you have a market, ensure it is WELL outside of the Market effect area. Build your blacksmith here too.

While this will not stop it. The time taken for the Vendor to take coal from that barn will be so long that your blacksmith will have lots of time to take coal for himself. If your desperate, turn off the Vender so that he collects no more stuff for your Market. This will stop him taking the coal, and stop people choosing coal over wood from your main stores.
