How do you solve the quarry/mining problem ?
Let me explain in detail what i mean. I play atm on hard / harsh weather / large map / disaster on / valley map and I guess we all try to minimize every path to a work place or storage so your citizien are most efficient. My problem atm in my +600 pop town is that i have to move my mines / quarries on a complete different location on the map and they have to split up by space issues. So my question is how to you handle this?

My 1st attempt , just moving the mines and quarries ended in a freeze and starvation death of many people (what i kinda exptected) cuz that changed the whole work path for so many people that they ran over the whole map which i wanna avoid ofc.

So my only working solution atm is to move houses with the quarry / mining location which is kinda annoying cuz that also causes new problems but i dont found another way to avoid the problem that citizien start to run over the whole map and end in death cuz at winter or even starvation issues by the long walk they take.

Any nice suggestions how to handle that ? For me i wish i could at least force some working pathes to avoid the automatically system that seems like working i take the closest house for each woking place and adjust all other.

So some tipps ?

(english is not my native language so be kind and i hope you can understand what i meant)

I haven't used Quarries or Mines yet... I was playing on a medium map and there was sufficient surface stone and iron that I didn't need to. Sorry :\

Citizens will eventually move to available houses closer to their jobs. Try to plan further into the future. Both my quarries are near each other as well as my all three of my mines.

Moving quarries or any jobs a long distance from their original position will have a change. Either build new houses or wait for them to move on their own.

Hope this was helpful.

like i said the only solution i found is to move their houses, and i have to move my quarries / mines by the fact they are close to 0% and there is no space to build new ones.

and to the other dude, buying all i would need via trade i guess would work for a bit, but i dont over produce that much to handle the income on iron/coal which i need to take care that all have tools, maybe if i dont use steel but i dont wanna do that :p

The best advice I can offer is if you must put your mines away from the city centre, then build a couple houses near the mine, a stockpile, and place a market somewhere between the mine and the city, with a road connecting it.

This way your miners will still have access to supplies and you can make a residential centre or farming community expansion later on around the market.

build houses near your planned mining operation before you build the mines? Then find their old house and delete em when you open the mine? :) :/

Forward planning is very important for mining/stonecutting industry since they require enormous amount of local housing to be efficient. You want a big open area with hills surround it, then build your industrial area around it. After you can safely rely on trade to get raw materials, just stop mining. I usually get to that point after depleting 4 mines and 2 quarries.

sounds fine

so there is now rly way to influence working pathes other than the place of the house or?

My largest village has less than 500 population, but already the place is pretty crowded and such a move is a pain (had to do it with 2 mines and a quarry simultaneously). Try a 'reset'. Worked for me.

After building everything you need, pause, fire everybody except the teachers, un-pause just to make sure they are all laborers, pause again, assign jobs, play. Now, if you planned the village correctly, everybody should try to find the closest job available and the chaos would end soon without casualties.

I don't have 600 yet either, but for me, I don't like the idea of "moving", rather expanding is my focus. I see where i want to go and exapand towards it, not just "move" Moves seem to me to require loads and loads of extra resources to be succcessful.

It doesn't take that long to set up a steady supply of firewood, and it is probably easier to find a good place for a (few) forester(s) and a wood cutter.
I'd try the trading option...

i wouldnt say move through the map, but moving the miners/stonecutters is imho the only working way and thats why i ask, maybe someone found another way than that to do to dont interrupt your other working areas

and btw :
more pop = higher difficulty.. omfg that game is awesome challenging when you reach a high pop

Its tough trying to see whats going on without a pic. Without seeing anything I would try to optimize the trip with bridges and or tunnels and roads to make the travel faster so they wouldnt freeze, and warm coats if possible. And build a few houses in the middle of the main town and the mine. Like an outpost. if thats not an option. i would trade for the resource You say space is limited. Moving stuff around with that pop aint worth the headaches. pople jumping in houses, markets etc. GOOD LUCK!
