Disasters On or Off?
Do disasters make the game funner, or are they just plain annoying?
Would the game be peaceful and too easy without them?

What do you choose? :P

I turned off disasters in one town to hunt some achievements. Disasters are not really annoying. The fires and tornados require you to manage the lay out of your city more, but infestations in pastures and farms are real easy to deal with... It's up to you, if turning it off makes the game more fun for you, than that's the way you should play.

Depends how you are wired. Do you have fortitude to power through or when the going gets tough, you rage quit.. I'm hardcore, Like Drago from rocky 4. if my town dies, it dies.

I'm at year 28 with no disasters. Playing without disasters allows you to figure things out in the long run without getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the first couple of years.
I will say it was kinda fun when during my first game play a tornado killed everyone but two woman within the first 5 minutes. Next thing I knew she had a son. It got weird he turned 12 they had their first child. I kinda whish the AI had him move in with the other woman.

They don't seem to really happen that often. Hours of gameplay, 100+ population city, and all I've seen so far is the mumps and a tornado. Actually kinda wish they'd happen more often, especially when the town gets large/stable.

Gonna say off.

Just had a tornado outside of my town. Somehow it killed like 98% of my population. I understood when it killed a hunter out in the woods; laughed even. Then everybody died. I just don't get it. All of their homes look fine. Only thing destroyed was hunting lodge and the herb gather building. Why can't my people just go home and ride out the storm?

Even if I managed to spread my people out enough (which would be annoying), that thing is definitely going to kill most of them anyway.

I thought disasters would be challenging, but that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tornado is just ridiculous.

I guess that's just the way it goes. I was pretty bored and felt like there was nothing left to do.

Screw disasters. I have had my fill of silly nonsense with sim city a decade ago. The game is interesting enough without. No useful trades coming along for ten years, despite putting in orders, is just about enough of a disaster anyway. :P

I think that the terrain you play in affects the natural disasters that happen like mountains have less tornados or something.
Depends. If you enjoy having a tornado appear in the center of town and dirivng your entire economy into a non stop cycle of starvation-death-rebirth, then sure. Personally, I get enough antagonizing at work. Rather play the game to relax.

I played with them on and survived through all of them. I proved to myself it is possible, and so I feel i do not need to have them on anymore, it is just a way to create difficulty because the game can't stand on it's own through mechanics yet. Maybe with a few patches.

i play with it On, the game is just so easy even on hard with harsh weather you need it on to make it interesting

a fire just burned down half my city...... the sad thing is that the river + well didn't stopped it.. I putted everyone in "laborer", highlighted the burning aera with priority tool... but it burned a lot of buildings...
the strange thing too is that even with 60 builders and 20 laborers, the rebuilding took like 2 years, and then all turned into a nightmare of starvation, cold... *sigh*

I usually play "hardcore", but there Idon't enjoy that, cause my people doesn't seems to react fast enough... not my fault, theirs.

Thanks for all the replies ;P I'll probably play with it off then to make it just a peaceful building sim. Sounds like the disasters wipe out a lot of progress sometimes.

I say it depends on your style and tastes. I say on, see what they're about. However if you're going for a specific kind of build, i'd have them off without a doubt. They are disasters. Sometimes fixable, sometimes not. If you do't mind recovering and rebuilding, absolutely on. If you're new, you'll probably restart a few times anyway and have your own player creeated disasters....
I had disasters on once, but i've lost over 15 villages because of disasters so i turned them off :D Now my village has over 100 villagers and growing.
Disaster really give you some hard times, so if you want some challenge turn them on but if you want to just desing and grow your village, you should turn them off.
Oh... and diseases comes even if you have disasters off so don't forget to build a herbalist and a hospital ;)
