Forester logging rates
I'm noticing that foresters don't seem to be able to cut down trees at even a tenth the rate of a non-forester. I've assigned 8+ foresters purely to Cutting trees (no planting), and they still cannot keep up with 1 woodcutter.

Best I can understand this is that foresters are 'renewably' cutting. While when you select an area to clear it's a 'clear cutting' scenario. They're different types of logging methods.

The foresters job is to build (when planting) and maintain a forest, not grow trees and cut them down in mass volume like a tree farm.

The forester does exactly as the guy above me says, they look after the forest, you can put gatherers and hunters next to a forest which is maintained by a foresters building

But they aren't actually cutting anything. If they were cutting things, you'd see saplings _and_ full grown trees.

i have the same problem, but worst. all fully grown trees, 3 forester lodgers center is dedicated to plant 2/2 both sides are dedicated to cut trees. 4/4. and all they do is idle wtf is this ♥♥♥♥ bug?

Seems like it takes forever to get logs

Had the same issue in most of my early games.

Generally I have 3-4 forester Huts with about 2-3 workers in each hut. This is with a population of about 50-60 already and pretty continues building. I also add about 2 woodcutters for firewood. Adding a third pretty soon after that just to keep my logs up in winter.

Generally I have 2 forester huts for every 1 woodcutter. Works fine for me, Ussually at my log limit, I set this to 300-400 at the start or so to keep them chop chopping.

Erm, I don't have this issue. I'd check your max log inventory. It's set to 200, which is fine in the start, but really low when you develop a bit more. If that's not it, I'd carefully watch your zones. Also, put a stockpile nearby. When you set your people to clear cut an area they do that. Your foresters will lug the logs back to your stockpiles immediately after dropping a tree so you don't see the massive clearing of trees you would otherwise. If they're not cutting anything, you'll see trees fall down and die of old age. If you truly find it bugged, send detailed info to the developer, preferably with a dxdiag of your computer. Since it's not a bug we all have, it's either not a bug and something else is going on, or specific to your rig that's enough different from what he was able to test on.

i set mine 500000 and they still idle. they wont cut full grown trees 4/4 cutters x 2 logs and 1 dedicated to planting.
dwobwinkle Feb 22, 2014 @ 4:34pm
Cutters make firewood, they don't work in the forester huts chopping down trees.

u dont understand what im trying to say here LOL. i have 3 forest lodges in the center is dedicated to planting trees 2/2. the other 2 on both sides which are 4/4 both and dedicated to CUTTING TREES. all trees full grown. and all they do is idle around

I use two forestery apart from each other, then i select one for just planting and the other one for cutting and planting, once i see the forest getting low on trees and only small trees, i Set the first one the one that was for planting only to cutting and planting, and the other one for planting, so basicly i make a rotation between each other, and work fine for me, i able to keep 1000 log, and 500 firewood at all time.
CobraA1 Feb 22, 2014 @ 5:06pm
Make sure your people are well clothed and in stone houses. People who don't need to heat themselves up as often don't use as much firewood. The problem may be in your consumption, not your supply.

I've got a town of over 100 people, and I'm set up like this: 3 woodcutters, 8 foresters (3 forester lodges: 2 in one area with cutting/planting split evenly, the other in a different area doing both).
Roerram Feb 22, 2014 @ 6:13pm
That seems rather a strange situation, I find that 3 foresters in one lodge tend to start out able to supply one woodcutter with excess left over for more buildings. I'd suggest checking how far is it from your foresters to put logs into the stockpile and then for the woodcutters to grab the logs and return firewood, and how far do the foresters walk from home to work.

I actually thought that was what you meant. I was just making sure, as a couple times I absentmindedly increased woodcutters instead of foresters before, haha. Well that sounds like a bug. Sorry I couldn't help. Hopefully the dev can get through the bugs. The bug count was in the 50's last I heard.

forestry centers definitely plant more than they cut... no doubt about that.

I wonder if you couldnt build a forestry center, and then clear cut it every few years when it gets filled with trees.

Im not sure I would... because Ive learned 1 forestry, 2 gathers, 1 hunter in a little clump produces a crap ton of food along with the wood.
