Can't Buy Livestock?

I have had a trader come to my village a few times with sheep but when I try to purchase some I can't. I have no trouble purchasing seeds or other goods but when I try to trade for livestock my supplies are grayed out. I also have a livestock pen.

Livestock is way more expensive than seeds. Besides, you need to pay attention at what kind of good the trader wants for a certain product. They won't accept goods like seeds or fish for livestock. I'm still learning this game, but they usually want tools in exchange for livestock. Lots of tools (something around 120 tools for 2 sheep).

Livestock more expensive than seeds? If you only get 2 animals to start breeding (only to have them die immediately to some disease, thanks banished) they're actually cheaper. Watching out for what the merchant actually wants is very true tough. I tend to keep at least 1 unit of every resource at my trading post, just so I can see everything. I also find that once you have a decent amount of foresters and woodcutters, trading firewood is nice (625 Firewood buys a 2500 worth seed)
