That is not even mentioning the ridiculous rate at which miners use up tools.
But I find that miners get coal pretty fast, especially in big towns, where you can basically fill up an entire mine with coal miners. When you do so, you will be swimming in coal (and iron). So I don't see the problem.
Um. Yeah.
You end up having hundreds of people eventually who will have nothing at all to do - unless you work multiple mines, quarries, and everything else.
There wouldn't be any challenge at all to the game if you were just given resources in a cheat code kind of way.
The game is balanced just fine - perhaps the expectations of some are not.
Not quite. With enouygh workers, your people practically eat even steel tools. I remember I had a stockpile of 40 tools and I accepted 17 nomads and in a year my tools were almost gone O_O
