Iron and Coal mines are not worth it
the yield, or the lack thereof is simply not worth diverting man power to a mine, more so for iron as you can obtain it by other means, but as far as coal goes the general output is deplorable

if anything increase the resources and time it costs to make mines, so they are more "late game" but when you get a mine in full swing, especially a coal mine, it should set you on the path for a major industrial push even a revolution. but its yield is simply not there at all.

my suggestion:

1. Have the coal mining output increased exponentially
2. Increase the cost and build time of the mines to offset its new yield values
3. add collapsed mines, or other mining related accidents ( I have yet to see one, if they are present increase the amount)

Use educated workers and it will go much faster. Your issue should be solved then.

lol, no, it doesn't

I agree. Educated miners has nothing to do with it. The mines are grossly out of balance compared with the pace of many other jobs and the pace of slow citizen expansion. The output needs to be increased greatly.

That is not even mentioning the ridiculous rate at which miners use up tools. :worker:

With 100 pop, I am using 5 miners to mine coal, this is able to keep up with my blacksmith without issues. I dont see an imbalnce issue in my game
BlackAlpha Feb 22, 2014 @ 10:53am
Same here. I use 3 miners per blacksmith.
GamingOutkast Feb 22, 2014 @ 10:55am
why are you using them just for tool and blacksmiths? people use them ( or try too) as fuel for homes as well... if my goal was to pump out 1 tool every 3 minutes id be ok with it

I put wood cutters and stockpiles inside residential areas, so that people prioritize using firewood.

But I find that miners get coal pretty fast, especially in big towns, where you can basically fill up an entire mine with coal miners. When you do so, you will be swimming in coal (and iron). So I don't see the problem.

from my play experiece they only grab coal if ur firewood gets to low so keep it up and i use 2 coal miners with pop of 64 adults and its fine. i dont use iron yet to much of it everywhere still lol play on hard vally never leaveing play speed :)

o sorry 1 more thing educated increased ur coal by decent amount so i would recomand educating

a educated pop performs everything more effeciantly. including mining. Mines, like everything you build isn't worth it if you cant support them. soundsto me like you are overreaching. Take your time. Steel tools last so much longer. Once you get to those. needing tools msgs, are history

I'm torn. Two miners and two stonecutters should easily supply the need for a medium-sized town. Granted iron is difficult to acquire if you're building both tools and advanced buildings but that's how it should be. Mines were very inefficient in the middle ages.

I think they're fine. If you just want ez-mode go play minecraft or something.

Um. Yeah.

You end up having hundreds of people eventually who will have nothing at all to do - unless you work multiple mines, quarries, and everything else.

There wouldn't be any challenge at all to the game if you were just given resources in a cheat code kind of way.

The game is balanced just fine - perhaps the expectations of some are not.

Not quite. With enouygh workers, your people practically eat even steel tools. I remember I had a stockpile of 40 tools and I accepted 17 nomads and in a year my tools were almost gone O_O

i must ask is this game any good as im thinking of buying the game i love city building games and this game looks like my kind of city builder but i want some other opions :)

I like having my 2 mines. I have 9 miners commited and they supplied enough for my blacksmiths into 300 pop. After this point though the coal started to drain since I have fewer coal miners than iron miners. So I just switched to trading for a bit of iron and coal when the traders roll around.
